Nobody at Valley Ranch apologized for the Cowboys' ugly overtime win over the 0-5 Kansas City Chiefs.

The Cowboys will take wins any way they can get them. However, they also recognize that they won't get many more wins if they don't perform better than they did at Arrowhead Stadium.

"There's a fine line," said linebacker Keith Brooking, who has emerged as one of the team's top leaders. "Enjoy your victory, then you get in the film room, you look at the film and see what you can do to make this team better. That's part of just being a pro and knowing when to enjoy it, when to cherish it. Then get your tail in here on Monday, look at the film and learn from your mistakes, take it out there on the field during the week, get better from it and show it on the field the following Sunday.

"That's where we need to be and where we've got to take this thing. Accountability is a very big part of it."

It must have been quite an educational experience Monday. The Cowboys sure made a ton of mistakes, starting with two unforced turnovers and 13 penalties.

"The most important thing is we overcame them, but you can't consistently do that," coach Wade Phillips said. "They're going to end up hurting you."

I hope everyone is listening to Brooking. I really do.

The more they listen to him, and the more they buy into his wisdom, his knowledge, his experience, his professionalism, .. the better this group will become.

Those things could be the difference between 9-7 and 11-5.

You apologize for losses, not for wins. Tim MacMahon can get back to me after the letters 'W' and 'L' switch places in the alphabet.
