I didn't read the whole thread so please forgive me if this has already been discussed. If we have a real statistician on this board maybe you can confirm or dispel the accuracy of what I'm thinking.
My theory is that you have to bring EXTRA heat on those final drives. If, on the final drive, you are running the same defense that is allowing a 30+ % success on 3rd downs, you are playing a fools game. On those final drives it is obvious 4 down territory. Therefore the opponent is getting 4 tries to do something your defense allows basically every 3rd time.
I don't like those odds when the game is on the line. That 3rd down conversion rate is only possible because you played a different defense on 1st and 2nd downs to force the other team into a 3rd down situation in the 1st place. So relying solely on a defensive alignment that allows the other team to succeed 1 out 3 times (when they have 4 times to make it) seems like sheer folly to me.

i simply got tired off bbgun, always saying something, and when somebody says something back, its not right all of a sudden.
