IRVING, Texas -- Gerald Sensabaugh took the final step in his progression as a playmaker on one particular zone blitz Wade Phillips likes to run.

Sensabaugh stepped in front of Patrick Crayton on a hot route during the Tuesday’s OTA workout and picked off a pass from Jon Kitna. It would have been an easy touchdown return.

Coach Wade Phillips said Sensabaugh was often a step late in that coverage early last season. Later in the season, Sensabaugh would often get to the receiver right as the ball arrived. That made the pick six in practice especially pleasing for the head coach/defensive coordinator.

“You can see the progression,” Phillips said.

A lack of turnovers is the only thing keeping the Dallas defense from being totally dominant, which makes Sensabaugh’s progression in this zone-blitz coverage even more encouraging.

It was practice and it was against Kitna. When it's in a real game against a starting QB, then it will be progress. Not to be a nay sayer, but for the past few years we've been waiting for the secondary to step up with more turnovers and they have failed.

Sensabaugh would have had a few picks last season if it wasn't for the cast on his hand.

Practice is where it begins and yes, it was progress because the HC with tons of experience on D said so.

That is terrible logic.

Sensy played well last season considering he was a first year player plugged into the system. He should improve his 2nd year. He's young and plays with a lot of passion, I'm a big fan of his and am looking forward to seeing him progress.

You're right. He dropped I think two. But Wade also said he was late getting to where he was supposed to be last year. I'm not saying he won't be improved this season, but he will have to show it on the field first before I believe it.

it was the same thing with spencer, and its the same way with scandrick.

i hear u bro

Sensabaugh, Newman, and Jenkins make for a pretty stout secondary...and if Ball and Scandrick add solid play, things are looking good there.
