IRVING, Texas -- Perhaps you've heard about Tony Romo's trouble winning in December. It's sort of a sensitive subject with the quarterback.
"We've played plenty of big games and won plenty of them," Romo said when asked about the perception that he doesn't perform to his norm in such situations.
Romo and Co. certainly haven't won enough big games late in the season, but the man is undefeated at the Meadowlands.
Romo, who missed last season's road game against the New York Giants because of a broken finger, can ensure Sunday that he'll never walk out of Giants Stadium a loser in a game that he started. His two previous performances in New Jersey have been remarkable for different reasons.
On Dec. 3, 2006, Romo found a way to win despite a so-so stat line (20 of 34, 257 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT). He hit Jason Witten for a 42-yard gain with a minute remaining to set up the game-winning field goal in the 23-20 victory, showing impressive poise for a quarterback making his sixth career start.
Romo was spectacular in his next trip to Jersey. He completed 20 of 20 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns with one interception in a 31-20 win on Nov. 11, 2007, giving the Cowboys a two-game cushion in the NFC East race.
If Romo's trend of winning in Jersey continues, the Cowboys will wave good-bye to the Giants in the division race. And Romo will get to go a week without hearing about his difficulties in December.
