Let's see...
** I agree free agent RBs could make more money than in previous seasons ( thanks to Barkley ). It's a copycat league and I'm sure many teams will lean more on their running game. The question is will that devalue the WR market a bit? Whether or not he's worth it, I think Higgins gets at least $35M, especially with a weak crop in the draft.
** Just me but I'm fine taking a blue chip T or G to replace Martin but it depends how the board falls.
I would take Simmons as well. A top flight left tackle from a big time program.

Washington is gonna buy every good free agent. So I can see Higgins getting his money from them.

The free agent class is not worth the squeeze at running back and receiver
I agree about RB coz we aren't a starter via free agency but we it would be nice to have presence of a vet in the room. One with a couple of good years left to add some leadership ( my vote would be James Conner, Nick Chubb or Najee Harris ). Free agent WR class is strong.....several options would be a clear upgrade over Cooks/Tolbert.

Here are some top 10.........from what I'm hearing, maybe add Kuup, Adam Thielen, Adams (Jets ) and Deebo
Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Amari Cooper, Buffalo Bills
Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans
DeAndre Hopkins, Kansas City Chiefs
Diontae Johnson, Baltimore Ravens
Darius Slayton, New York Giants
Keenan Allen, Chicago Bears
Demarcus Robinson, Los Angeles Rams
Joshua Palmer, Los Angeles Chargers

No question.....Quinn has a $100M to play with along with owners and management eating out of his hand. My guess .........he is going to spend top resources ( free agent or draft ) to get Daniel another elite WR, RB and Oline.

I agree. Supposedly teams don’t start putting their boards together until March but follow the money. The wide receivers and running backs that are available in free agency will be overpaid. As good as Higgins is he is not worth 30 million. Cooper and Diggs won’t be cheap either. The running back free agents are dog poop. From a financial standpoint the Cowboys need to take care of those positions through the draft. Drafting a left tackle makes no sense when you drafted two in the last three years in the first round.
After the RB coach we picked up, I think Ekeler will be in play for us in free agent. He bounced back from a poor final season with the Chargers to average 4.8 YPC with Washington. However, he had to overcome a couple of concussions and only carried the ball 74 times. That should keep his price down since he's likely viewed as a No. 2 back.

The guy I want us to sign (knowing the cheapness of the Joneses) is Nick Chubb. The fact that he averaged 3.3 YPC last year and has battled some injuries should keep his price down, but he could end up being a steal, like Josh Jacobs was last year for the Packers (although they overpaid for him, so it could be like that with Chubb). Jacobs had averaged 3.5 YPC the year before hitting free agency, but averaged 4.4 for Green Bay last year. His cap hit his first year was a reasonable. $5.3 million but it goes up to $11 million this year because of a roster bonus.

I refuse to believe we will take a TE in the 1st or 2nd round. That said, I do think it's likely they will go offense in the 1st and 2nd, or at least with 2 of our first 3 picks. It's all about Dak and trying to get him more weapons. Hiring Schott, besides being a cheap and comfortable hire for Jerry/Stephen, it was also about Dak. He's an offensive coach who Dak likes and is comfortable with. I think they will try to give him more players on that side of the ball, and probably RB/WR

We have no #2 WR and barely a #3. We also don't have a starting caliber RB, unless we re-sign Dowdle, but that isn't giving us an upgrade. Also we won't get a starting RB or #2 WR in FA. Only a few WR's in that category and we aren't spending the $$$ for Higgins, etc. Most of the other FA WR's are over the hill or #3 types. FA RB's will all be entering at least their 5th season and don't see a high end one available, nor would we spend the money for one anyway. Problem is, we also need an upgrade at DT, another starting OL and LB, plus a DE and S. We will be lucky to get one of those before day 3 of the draft. Jerry and Stephen have created a major mess and we have to rely on them to fix it. Good luck.

Context....Burden drops to 19, Egbuka to 21 and Jeanty to 22.
Golden is rising if you believe this mock

Cowboys
1st....Mathew Golden WR, Texas
2nd ...Elijah Arroyo TE, Miami

This would be an absolutely awful outcome, particularly Arroyo in the 2nd round.

If you’re gonna go receiver at 12, I think Egbuka makes so much more sense. He’s more ready-made to step in and contribute as a regular part of the offense Day 1, running big boy routes. To me he’s on that Reggie Wayne tier between a #1-2 receiver.

FWIW, I would wager a decent amount he ends up testing better than Burden too.

To me, Burden is a classic back end of R1 prospect. The kind of player a very good team with solid WR depth could fold into their receiving corp but not be reliant on early.

Golden the number 2 receiver in the draft? Longhorn fans tell me more?

I thought Matt Miller had Dallas connections. There is no way we take a tight end in the second round.
He's just like every other mock drafter. He just looks at where we are talent deficient and addresses the problem.

Not a fan of Golden at 12.

He is picking up steam quickly though. I have seen him projected to us in several mocks recently

I like the idea of Golden / Egbuka in a trade down but 12 seems rich.

I’d consider Warren / Loveland in the 2nd but Arroyo seems like a big reach.

We continue burning 2nd round picks on TEs but our production seems to come from later picks

Witten - 3rd
Schultz - 4th
Ferguson - 4th

Mostly because we keep taking the wrong ones and reaching for need instead of just taking studs that happen to fall.

For as much as we complain about a lack of speed and separation abilities on our WR group I'm surprised that more people aren't into Golden. I get he might not feel like an excellent value at that pick based on end of year mocks, but he seems like an excellent complement to Lamb. Also feels like a high floor type of player to me. Personally I'd rather try and trade back and take my chances than go with Golden at 12, but I certainly wouldnt hate the pick.
