Tank Johnson, Dallas, Tx: Why is the commissioner wating so long to let me know if I can play this week? What are my chaces of suiting up against the Vikings?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:03 PM ET ) Great to hear from you guys this afternoon. Since I noticed a lot of Tank questions, let me get it out of the way quickly. The commissioner said he would wait until later in the week, which makes me think he'll reduce the suspension to seven games, not six. It's not like the guy's been practicing with the team, so I don't think he'd be ready anyway. I think he'll reinstate him after the Vikings game. He can use the bye to get up to speed.

Mike (Los Angeles): How close are my Raiders away from being a contender? They definitely look a lot better this year. Thanks!

sn2.gif
MATT MOSLEY: (2:05 PM ET ) Mike: I think the Raiders are obviously better, but they still have some major flaws. It might be time to see what your first-round quarterback can do since that's a huge part of the puzzle. I like what Tom Cable has done with the OL, but I didn't like the way your LT played Sunday. That was a poor performance all the way around, and Lane Kiffin wasn't shy about saying so. Still, it's nice to at least be competitive again.

Chris (chicago): Would you kick to Devin Hester? I know a lot of people are saying they wouldnt but doesnt that take away from the excitement of the game?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:08 PM ET ) Coaches shouldn't be worried about the "excitement of the game." It's baffling to me how you can keep letting this guy kill you. I talked to Mat McBriar about this topic. I think the prospect of facing Hester was one of the main reasons he worked on kicking the ball out of bounds -- or at least to a corner. On kickoffs, you'd almost be better kicking it out of bounds. The guy is that amazing. At this point, the Bears game plan consists of giving up a ton of yards and then praying for Hester to make a huge play.

Bevan (UT): What kind of impact do you think Kevin Jones will bring to the Detroit Lions? He is a very good receiver out of the backfield, and he runs harder than Bell. Do you think they will run more with him on the field?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:11 PM ET ) Bevan: If he can stay healthy, he can be a dynamic back. The Lions haven't shown any interest in using Tatum Bell, so it's obvious Jones will be the guy. I don't think he's the type of player who will get 20 carries per game. But if you can get him 15 to 20 touches, you should be in good shape.

Brian (Levittown,Pa): With all the legal issues surrounding Andy reid's kids, do you think that it would be best for the team that he step down for the remainder of the season?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:15 PM ET ) I think it's way too early to count the Eagles out. They could climb back into this thing. And I think it would be nuts for Reid to step down. He's the leader of that team, and I don't see anything positive coming out of him taking leave. You want Good Times Marty running that thing? I know Jim Johnson wants no part of that interim gig. It's not going to happen. Not to sound harsh, but aren't these boys like 23 and 25. At some point, they're going to have to grow up on their own.

Bruce (MN): Please Help!!! My league is about to implode due to this pending trade: Berrian/Boldin for Westbrook/H.Ward. Is this deal fair, and if not which side does it favor?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:16 PM ET ) OK, you finally wore me down dude. Sure, pull the trigger. The deal favors the team who is ending up with Westbrook. He's way more dynamic than the other players. Boldin has to share with Fitzgerald, and they have some quarterback issues. Berrian has quarterback issues. Westbrook and Ward don't.

Luke (Cincinnati, OH): Can Adrian Peterson and an improving Tarvaris Jackson help the Vikings to an 8-8 season, or are they doomed to a 4-12?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:19 PM ET ) Luke: I don't see any reason why the Vikes can't finish .500. Peterson was unreal against the Bears the other night. If he has another solid outing against a pretty strong Dallas rush defense, I think we can start engraving that Rookie of the Year plaque. Tarvaris Jackson needs to bring his completion percentage up for this team to have any consistency, though. But until someone stops Peterson, keep feeding the Beast!

Eric (Indianapolis): Who is more likely to win this Sunday, the Bengals at home versus the Jets or the Commanders at home versus the Cardinals?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:20 PM ET ) Both of those teams will win, but the Commanders are more likely to get it done. I don't trust that Bengals team at all.

Vinnie (NYC): How will Chris Chambers affect the San Diego offense? Will teams have to stop double teaming Gates and stacking the line against LT?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:22 PM ET ) Let's not get too carried away on this trade. Chambers has been to one Pro Bowl in six years. He had a breakout season in 2005, but he fell off the map last season. In his defense, he's played for a ton of different coaches and quarterbacks. I do think he'll make that offense more dangerous.

Ben (Boston): Do you think the Jaguars can win Monday night? Although I would like the colts to lose I would like to see another undefeated match up Nov. 4th in Indy when play the Pats for NFL regular season supremacy.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:25 PM ET ) Can't wait for that matchup. And I certainly think the Jags have a chance to win. If Jacksonville can put pressure on Peyton Manning early and make him somewhat uncomfortable, they will have a chance. I think the Jags would be wise to try to gash the Colts with their running game. That's how you keep Manning off the field.

Jeremy (Bellevue): Matt would you start Addia vs Jax this week or Maroney vs Mia? Thanks

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:26 PM ET ) Go with the healthy guy. You never know with Maroney. Addai will at least get the opportunities.

Nate (Madison): Do you think the Packers might have entertained making a move for someone like Michael Turner before the deadline? I mean to me that deal almost makes too much sense. Can Thompson get anymore conservative whether it's Randy Moss, moving up in the first round, or trying to acquire a more effective back despite up and down blocking.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:28 PM ET ) I'm sorry. What's your record again? Yes, I know the running game isn't great, but the Packers are still finding ways to win games. Ted Thompson made a huge error by getting cute on draft day. But the Chargers have wanted a second-round draft choice for a non-starter. It wasn't going to happen.

Dave (DE): Do you see Matt Schaub being a top 10 QB the rest of the way, or perhaps, when A. Johnson returns?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:30 PM ET ) Dave:

I think Matt Schaub has been solid throughout the season. And yes, he's doing it with a ragtag bunch of receivers. I think I read that he'd been sacked less than any quarterback in the league. That's pretty amazing when you consider the Texans led the world in sacks for several years.

Katelyn (Syracuse, NY): Is Edwards the right choice for starting QB for the Bills? Or should they see if Losman can still progress the way he did last season?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:33 PM ET ) Katelyn:

The Bills can't help themselves right now. They feel like they have a pretty good feel for what Losman can do, so they want to keep looking at Edwards. He was so good in his first start against the Jets that it made Dick Jauron want to keep putting him in there. He didn't really do much against the Cowboys. They can act like it's not a permanent move, but if he plays well, it will become permanent.

Mike(Dallas): Of the three young QBs in the NFC East, who do you think will be the best long term?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:35 PM ET ) What, no Kolb? In a shocking move, I'll go with Tony Romo. I really like Jason Campbell, but he doesn't have the innate ability that Romo has to sense trouble in the pocket and to race through his progressions. I love how Eli's playing, but still haven't seen enough to say he's turned the corner for sure.

Trace (Dallas): Hey Matt, love listening to you and Galloway on Tuesdays. what is your prediction for the Vikings-Cowboys game this Sunday and will the cowboys hold Adrian Peterson under 125 yards?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:36 PM ET ) Cowboys 31, Vikes 20

Peterson runs for 72 yards.

Tyler (St. Joseph, MO): Which winless team will win first? Miami or STL?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:38 PM ET ) I don't have the schedule in front of me, but my guts tells me the Dolphins will win first. They at least have a semblance of a defense. The Rams are just awful all thie way around.

Patrick (Seattle): Since you wont answer my question I'll assume you are as dumbfounded as I am. Along with everyone in Seattle. Do you think the Seahawks will surge at the end?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:41 PM ET ) Patrick:

I'm not sure how I could've missed your question. There are only 388 people waiting in line. The Seahawks' schedule is ridiculously easy coming up, so I wouldn't lose faith.

Ryan (San Diego): Am I wrong to think that Chambers might have a similar resurgence in SD that Moss did in NE? I know they were never on the same talent level, but you have to admit he probably wasnt playing up to his potential in Miami

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:42 PM ET ) I definitely think he'll make a positive impact, but Moss is a special player. I just think Chambers is a nice player.

Willie (Portland, OR): Matt, did Joey Harrington deserve to lose his job? He hasn't been great, but I don't think he played so bad as to warrant a QB change. That team is horrible, especially the O-line and running game.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:44 PM ET ) That team is simply desperate for a change. And a change at quarterback is about the only thing that would come close to inspiring that fan base. The defense has actually played well at times, but the offense is just tough to watch.

koren robinson(green bay): hey matt what are my chances of playing monday night in denver?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:45 PM ET ) I don't think so.

Chuck (Portland): Matt - If Ricky Williams get reinstated, would the Dolphins be forced to activate him or release him, or can they just leave him inactive and do nothing? Thanks.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:46 PM ET ) Chuck:

You can't force a team to activate a player. If he's reinstated, you could simply list him as "inactive" each week until you figure out what you want to do with him. Dolphins don't want any part of him.

Carl (San Francisco): Why hasn't Jim Hostler been fired yet as the 49ers offensive coordinator? This may be the worst offense in the history of the 49ers organization...NO JOKE!

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:49 PM ET ) Carl:

I think Mike Nolan's trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. The 49ers tnought Alex Smith was playing a lot better before he hurt his shoulder. Now, it looks like he might be ready to go Sunday against the Giants. That's just a bad situation right now. That line played so well at times last season. Not sure what the problem is right now.

Ice Cold (Boulder, CO): After watching Brady in Dallas this week, who is better: Peyton Manning or Tom Brady?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:51 PM ET ) I don't think Sunday's performance changed my mind about anything. They are both unbelievable. Brady has more rings, so he has the upperhand. Can I just say they're both first-ballot Hall of Famers and leave it at that.

Jim, Pittsburgh: Matt - What do you think about Tom Brady being fined for a chin-strap violation! Apparently the commish called him personally to announce the fine, is this common or is it just bitterness?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:53 PM ET ) This is part of a vast conspiracy to bring down the evil Belichick Empire. I have no idea why the commissioner would make a personal call other than to say, "I know how ridiculous this is but we have to do it."

I'm sure the Patriots will somehow use this as motivation.

Matthew (Mobile): With Sammy Morris going down, will we FINALLY see Laurence Maroney playing football again? Such a disappointment...

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:55 PM ET ) With that passing game, the Patriots don't feel the need to rush Maroney back into action. He appeared to be lobbying Belichick to play Sunday, but it didn't work out. I don't think Morriss' injury will influence the Patriots when deciding whether to start Maroney.

Ken (St. Paul): Matt, will the national media ever get over it's man-crush for Reggie Bush? It's getting annoying. Another good example was on Sunday night when he had his mug put on the horse trailer as the player of the game. I think he had 10 carries for 9yds and a lost fumble in the second half when the Saints needed a rb to carry the load and work the clock with a big lead. How does that translate into player of the game?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:57 PM ET ) Ken:

I think everyone has been waiting so long for him to do something that even a decent game drew rave reviews. Now, he did make some nice plays in the passing game, too. But for the record, I've moved on and now have a man-crush on Adrian Peterson. :p:

Tony (Orlando): Can you tell me why the Dolphins wouldnt start John Beck. If you are working on getting a top pick in the draft shouldn't you know if he is the real deal or if you should entertain a new guy.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (2:59 PM ET ) Maybe they don't think he can handle it yet. Just because a team's 0-6 doesn't mean they should just throw a guy in there for grins. If he's ready, by all means. But coaches don't want to throw rookies to the wolves until they're ready. Perhaps Beck isn't ready.

Sarah Silverman (New York): Im Sarah Silverman and you must answer the question as to which QB will be the first to pose naked?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:00 PM ET ) Marc Bulger

Tank (NM): FFL question: Should I drop Schuab and pick up Bulger as my backup QB? I figure I'll only use him in case of emergency, so why not take the guy with more potential?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:01 PM ET ) Stick with Schaub. Bulger's playing behind a chain-link fence, and someone left the gate open. I don't even know what that means. You've got five minutes before I have to go interview Adrian Peterson.

Pete C (Newark DE): Who do you like in the Jax-Indy match-up is there a possiblility of an upset?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:02 PM ET ) Great chance of an upset but give me Indy.

Bart, Scranton, Pa.: Its time that you stop giving the Ravens so much respect. They have scored 6 offensive touchdowns against the Jets, St.Louis and Arizonas of the NFL, they give up only 6 points less than the Giants and they have their tough part of their schedule coming up. If they are a playoff team, I'm the queen of Sheba. The most ioverrated team in everyon's top 10 power polls.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:04 PM ET ) Dear Sheba:

This defense is rolling. My man Boller is on fire. The Ravens are a playoff team.

Bob Ryan: sugar shane, who will be the big name free agents next year?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:05 PM ET ) Bob:

It's an honor to have you stop by. Enjoyed our visit at Texas Stadium. Here's the one name to remember: Big Al Haynesworth. The man is a beast, and I don't think the Titans are going to break the bank to keep him. This man is going to make a ton of money for someone. A huge talent.

John (Atlanta): Besides the game they play eachother where do you possibly see the Colts and Patriots losing a game this season?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:08 PM ET ) Off the top of my head, the Colts could easily lose Monday. They've played the Texans and Colts on the road already, so you can rule those teams out.

The Patriots go to Baltimore about Week 12. That could be nasty. Watch out for those Dolphins, too. Brady always struggles against them. Karma!

Travis Henry (Denver,CO): Do you think I will play all season?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:08 PM ET ) Nope

Mohosthanswisscheese (Big D): Can the Cowboys make a move for Haynesworth? Will they possibly have the cap room to pull off a deal like that? And would he fit into the nose spot of a 3-4 or not?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:10 PM ET ) He can fit any spot. Would be fun to put the Tank and Big Al together. It won't happen though. Haynesworth left his footprint on Pro Bowl center Andre Gurode's face, and the Cowboys haven't forgotten.

Sheba (Da-Nile): Ravens D is not what is used to be - they stopped Dilfer and Frerotte - big whoop! I agree with Bart - way overrated.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:10 PM ET ) Beware of the RAVEN

Seth (Missouri): Who do you see winning the AFC West and do you think any wild card team could come out of that division such as the Chiefs or Raiders?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:11 PM ET ) Perhaps the Chiefs. They finally have a viable threat at receiver, and the defense is playing well. And they can beat just about anyone at home.

Tom (SC): Matt- what are the chances the Saints end the regular season with a playoff berth now that they got their first win at the vaunted Qwest Field against the Seahawks?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:12 PM ET ) Don't see it happening. Not with that defense.

guy: can we call you sugar shane from now on?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:12 PM ET ) Fine by me.

THE AFC EAST: Patriots and waving white flags in Buffalo, Miami, and New Jersey.

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:13 PM ET ) Early December

Steve DC: Hey Matt, Cutler, big bust or going to bust out?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:14 PM ET ) Closer to bust than bust out.

john, ny: will jp losman be traded at the end of the yr and what is his worth? also what direction do you see the bills going in the draft?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:15 PM ET ) I love me some Bills draft talk in mid-October. I'm still in the early stages of preparing my mock, but I have them taking a cornerback right now. And Losman could possibly bring a third-rounder. Maybe not even that.

Justin (Texas): is vinny a better qb than carr

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:19 PM ET ) The question is, "Does Vinny give the Panthers a better chance to win?" The answer to that question is yes. I saw where one of the Charlotte columnist said Carolina should go back to Carr. But why?

If given time, Vinny is still one of the most accurate passers around. And he still throws a nice deep ball. Carr doesn't get rid of the ball and takes far too many sacks. The two best quarterbacks in the league aren't known for their mobility. Give me Vinny.

Tommy(TheStatPack): Did the Cardinals ever consider Drew Bledsoe?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:20 PM ET ) Not to my knowledge. Drew's trying to get his new winery up and running.

Bryan (Westbury, NY): What's the over/ under on Russell starts this year for Oakland?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:21 PM ET ) four

Zack (Kansas): Is Bennett the right man for the Bucs?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:22 PM ET ) They just need a body at this point. At one point, he had tremendous speed. I haven't seen him play in a while, though.

Justin (Texas): Matt Schaub reminds me a lot of Drew Bledsoe. is this fair?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:23 PM ET ) I actually think Schaub does a little better job moving around. He doesn't take many sacks. Bledsoe held onto the ball too long.

Alex (Kansas): Does Olathe Northwest(3-4) have a chance vs Olathe South (6-1) this week?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:26 PM ET ) Give me Northwest and the points. Folks, it's been wonderful. I love all of you. Show up on time next week. And meet me over at Hashmarks tomorrow morning. You don't know what you're missing. OK, I have to run talk to Adrian Peterson now. All my best.

m

Mike (Dallas): Shocked that you haven't talked about your alma mater. Is Baylor looking for a new coach?

sn2.gif
Matt Mosley: (3:27 PM ET ) The answer is yes. Hearing some hot Houston Nutt rumors. But Singletary's still mulling it over. Thanks for asking. Right now, we're having some issues with our assistant coaches. You guys have been wonderful. Please stick around for the reception afterwards.
