ESPN: Metrics aside, Cowboys realize value of Nick Hayden

How can someone take his job if there has been 0 effort to bring anyone else in? I don't think anyone hates Hayden himself, they (I) hate the fact that he seems to be the de facto starter. Nick Hayden is the starter and we haven't drafted a DT before the 7th round the past 2 years. I'm not sure how anyone wouldn't have a problem with that.

Totally understand. The fact is, they haven't yet and until they do Hayden is playing. For whatever reason, they just don't value that position.

The guy made it to the NFL and he is doing the best that he can.

I've learned that much like, quantum physics, the tax code, and the popularity of the Kardashians, Nick Hayden being the starting defensive tackle of the Dallas Cowboys is something I'll never truly understand.

I mean if you want arrogant young men to pay attention then what better way than to praise the weak alpha dog for his obedience while at the same time flaying the young men for being slugs. Garrett called a 1v1 with Coleman and Patrick a marshmallow fight. Good stuff. I have no doubt they will have these guys whipped into a nice lather.

I like Hayden he seems like a good dude; but he is at best inconsistent; he gets pushed around on the inside, he has zero pass rush ability.

I wouldn't have a problem with him being the second or third guy off the bench, but the fact that he is a starter just shows the lack talent on the DL.

He seems like a good dude and a hard worker and a high effort guy. Which you have to respect, but at the end of the day, you need talent too. Which he doesn't have, God bless him.

Hard worker, high effort and stays healthy mean he's the starter by default until Dallas finds someone who is all of those things AND talented. And the Cowboys don't see that as a priority over other positions.

I agree, except I think the consistency is what they like about him.

You would think that being a Golden Cock would be enough.

And I believe this is where the problem lies and you have uncovered it. How can you possibly cut a guy that you have nicknamed "The Golden Cock" and face the rest of the team and expect them to take you seriously from that point on. I believe they have boxed themselves into a corner...lol

It shouldn't be, the article said everything there is to say. He is what he is and until somebody takes his job away he will play.

Cracks me up the way some guys just hate the guy.

Me, too. I figured I'd unleashed the Hounds of Hell. But it was a dud.

Sometimes I wonder if Nick Hayden and Jeff Heath have ever visited the Cowboys Zone.

Man I hope not.

Can't believe nobody has picked up on this bit by Archer yet:

What’s funny is that the Cowboys use PFF’s services, like many teams across the NFL.

I'd like to see how the anti-PFF crowd explains that one away.

*ducks for cover*
