:laugh2: It's hard for me to have a lot of sympathy for a guy who continually puts himself in a bad position like that, particularly if he's leading a thug life. If he really was coming home from a family function at that time of the morning, my bad. But again, I have my suspicions. Call me crazy, I know. :laugh2:

The Miami Dolphins are now four players under the roster limit.

They didn't need to make any cuts Wednesday to get down to 75 players because they had only 72. They were looking forward to the big scavenger hunt after teams reduce their rosters to the 53-man regular-season allotment at 4 p.m. Saturday.

On Wednesday night, the Dolphins announced they had a little more room, releasing veteran safety Keith Davis, who was the Dallas Cowboys' special teams captain last year.

Davis' agent, Curtis Stephens, phoned ESPN.com to rebuff a report that laid out suspicious circumstances surrounding the move.

"The truth of the matter is there was an opportunity for Keith with the Dolphins, and it didn't work out," Stephens said. "Players are signed and released every day in the NFL. It was just another transaction. There's no police blotter. He's not in anyone's doghouse.

"There's nothing to this story other than it's a transaction that reflects a situation that didn't work out."

The Dolphins signed Davis on March 11. They were familiar with his work. Dolphins football operations boss Bill Parcells coached him in Dallas. New head coach Tony Sparano and new GM Jeff Ireland also came from the Cowboys.

Davis was expected to be a major special-teams contributor for the Dolphins. He also was listed second on the depth chart at strong safety behind Yeremiah Bell heading into Thursday night's preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints.

Davis was tied for sixth with seven defensive tackles in the preseason, but he didn't have any on special teams.

But it isn't out of the question. That's the point. You said we'd have to keep 5 safeties as if it's unheard of. I think we could also decide neither DoWayne Davis or Courtney Brown are long term solutions and say sayonara. There are plenty of options whether Keith is here or not.

Yeah, that clears it up! It just didn't work out.

The fact that his agent has to even mention "there is no police blotter" speaks volumes about the perception of this guy around the league. And again, getting shot twice doesn't help. Sorry Mr. Agent, you'll have to come up with better than that. Not saying that's the reason for his release, but it's obviously more than being "just another transaction." Give me a break.

No, I was not inferring that keeping 5 safeties was beyond reason.

I'm just not sure that is the case given:

1. We have wealth of talent at CB, where as we did not last year.

2. From what we've been told up to this point it sounds like there will be more defensive packages involving more corners this year and less safeties, which may require a 6th corner on the active roster.

I myself would have a difficult time believing that Brown has less ability to play safety than what Keith Davis does. He may not have Davis' experience at safety but I'm sure his athletic ability to play the position far surpasses that of Keith Davis.

Just to piggyback on your comment, I think it would me much easier for me to accept a reserve role playing behind two Pro Bowl players at my position on a stacked team that was in the playoffs a year ago. Rather than be a reserve on a team coming off a 1-15 season with no stars or studs on their defense ahead of me or surrounding me. I'd ask for a release as well. If that is in fact how this thing played out.

I do have fond memories of him jacking up Deshaun Foster the last year he played for us. Deshaun came through the line, thinking he was all bad *** and Davis just jacked him up bad, facemask to facemask.

If he's fixated on 'starting', good luck with that - somewhere else.

Amen. If he's not good enough to start in Miami, he's not good enough to start here. And he didn't ask to be released by one team to go be a backup at another.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him leading our special teams. But look for him to try to go to the team that has the weakest depth at safety so he can 'prove' he's a starter.

I don't agree with this. I think Davis would like to start. He's young, has some talent, and is a very good ST player. I believe he'll try to catch on with a team looking for someone to start or push their current SSs.

OTOH, it's late in camp and it'd be hard for him to catch on to a D well enough to start.

He's in a pickle. I doubt he'll want to come back to Dallas unless he sees no other option.

And speaking of the other hand, why would Dallas want someone whom they know isn't going to start here. Davis can't cover as well as Roy and Roy's been benched in passing situations. And when someone can play anywhere near Roy's abilities as a run stopper AND can play the pass well then they'll be the starting safety. So I see no place for Keith here. I wouldn't want to push a young guy off the roster who may become a starting safety here.
