Live luncheon report from Buffalo
October 8, 2007 1:05 PM

Western New York native Roger Goodell has just taken the stage. Goodell is sitting at a table with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his sons, Stephen and Jerry Jr.

Bills owner Ralph Wilson is seated to Jerry Sr.'s right. Most of you know Wilson hasn't always always been a fan of Jerry's. Wilson just presented Lackawana native Ron Jaworski with a No. 7 Bills jersey. Jaws, a huge Bills fan growing up, started naming starting lineups from the 60s.

Former Bills greats Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and Steve Tasker are also here. Goodell has agreed to visit with Hashmarks after the luncheon, but one of his assistants then said it was a 50-50 proposition.

Now we're watching a video called "Evolution of Content," which I've now seen three times. ESPN Radio's John Seibel has just relieved Mike Tirico as the emcee.

Who's Covering T.O.?
October 8, 2007 1:00 PM

When cornerbacks Jason Webster and Ashton Youboty went down with injuries, the Bills turned to an undrafted fourth-year player named Jabari Greer.

They didn't exactly break him in slowly when Patriots receiver Randy Moss lit him up for 115 yards and two touchdowns a couple of weeks ago, but Greer bounced back last Sunday to make a key interception in the Bills' 17-14 win over the Jets. When head coach Dick Jauron announced during practice Wednesday that Greer had been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week, players went nuts. Because of his engaging personality, Greer has become one of the most popular players on the team.

Greer's reward: A matchup with Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens, who is having a monster season.

"I don't have to put the emphasis on my back," Greer said late last week. "I don't have to be like 'I have to stop this guy.' I just know as long as I play my technique there's going to be an opportunity for me to make a play."

Away from the field, Greer is a huge jazz enthusiast. He worships Miles Davis, and in the offseason, he takes guitar, drum and trumpet lessons.

Greetings From A Marriott Lobby
October 8, 2007 10:22 AM

It's 10 a.m., and seven elderly men wearing Lee Evans jerseys have gathered in the lobby of the Buffalo Niagara Marriott. It may seem strange on the surface that a group of grown men would swear their allegiance to a streaky AFC receiver, but it's not like the Bills have that many recognizable players to choose from. And Evans is known as a friend to the senior citizen.

Quick, name a starting linebacker for the Bills. It's not an easy task right now. Last week, Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens was asked on a Miami radio show to name at least one Bills player. After several seconds, he finally blurted "Losman!" as if he'd made an important medical discovery.

This morning, I woke up to the sounds of Niagara Falls, although it could've also been my air conditioner, which was set to a breezy 58. I was headed here last night for some local flavor, but the place closed at 11 p.m.

We (the ESPN family) instead holed up in a famous Marriott sports bar called Houlihan's to watch the end of the Packers-Bears game. Told the kitchen was closed, we did what anyone in our position would've done: Ordered a 26-slice pizza from a Chinese takeout place called Yings.

We're headed to an ESPN luncheon with Commissioner Goodell in a few moments, but I'll be with you the rest of the afternoon. Oh, can you guys tell me the best vantage point for the Falls?

I left my passport at home, so I'm not sure the Canadian side is a viable option. Thanks for your continued support during these trying times.
Robert Blackmon

Jaws on Edwards and Brady

October 8, 2007 2:32 PM

I'm pretty sure Ron Jaworski just compared Trent Edwards to Tom Brady. Speaking at an ESPN luncheon, he just said Edwards' performance last week against the Jets reminded him of Brady replacing Drew Bledsoe.

He said he ignored Edwards' numbers and focused on how quickly he was getting through progressions. He also loved the leadership skills Edwards has shown.

He indicated that the J.P. Losman era may have already come to a close.

Still waiting on Roger Goodell. Oh, and Hashmarks just learned that Josh Reed will replace the injured Peerless Price tonight as the starting receiver opposite of Lee Evans.
