Now that it's official, how will Adam Jones fit in?

I hope this doesn't catch anyone by surprise, but Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones has been fully reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and will play in the regular-season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7. Obviously, Goodell wouldn't have partially reinstated Jones if he didn't plan on letting him play in the regular season.
He was waiting to see if Jones could make it through a three-month period without receiving any visits from the police. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones pretty much made it impossible for the player to get in trouble by having a four-man security detail track his every move. And Jones is also receiving daily calls from Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin to make sure he's taking care of business.
In a delicious sidenote provided by Dallas Morning News Cowboys beat writer Calvin Watkins, Adam Jones was sitting in a Hooters restaurant when he received the call from the NFL office.
Not that there's anything wrong with stopping by Hooters for a few wings at lunch. I've had friends tell me it's a good place to go.
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has been operating under the assumption that Jones would be reinstated throughout training camp. When the season begins, he'll be the team's third cornerback. When Terence Newman moves inside in the nickel, Jones will take his place on the outside.
I think Jones will make it through the season. Honestly, the Cowboys' owner won't allow any other result. Now that he's been reinstated, the Cowboys can focus on Jones' play on the field as much as what happens off of it.
At this point, there's still some rust. Defensive coordinator Brian Stewart told me last week that Jones still abandons his technique at times. He has a tremendous amount of ability, but he almost relies on that too much.
The Cowboys may be more excited about Jones' ability in the return game than in the secondary. The club hasn't had a consistent threat in either area since Deion Sanders left the building. And don't try to bring up Reggie Swinton. He played on horrible teams, and he wasn't that consistent. (He did make some decent rap videos.)
The Cowboys have done a nice job of surrounding Jones with teammates who won't let him get out of line. Oddly enough, though, his best friend on the team is reportedly Tank Johnson. Not sure what to make of that, but I do know that Tony Romo and Terrell Owens have gone out of their way to welcome Jones into the locker room.
