I'm on "assignment" for most of the day, but wanted to remind you that the NFC East blog will host a live-blogging event tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

The Texans and Cowboys will square off in the Governor's Cup. I'm inviting readers of Paul Kuharsky's entertaining AFC South blog to join me for this special occasion.

Last time I looked, the Texans were on the verge of breaking numerous exhibition records. But seriously, they should provide a nice test for a defense that hasn't shown much interest in stopping anyone in the first two preseason games.

Hopefully Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart will take the training wheels off Adam Jones and let him cover a first-team wide receiver. The Cowboys didn't receive any push from their front three in Saturday's loss to the Broncos, so that will be a point of emphasis.

I talked to Stewart via phone Thursday and he indicated that the defense would be more aggressive than in the first couple of games. In case you missed it, Stewart was the star of HBO's "Hard Knocks" with his rousing speech to the defense.

He said that the position coaches were there to "nurture" and "root" for players. He then shouted that he didn't have to do that and demanded a better performance.

I'm told he performed the speech on his first take. It was Pacino-like in its raw emotion, and I'm pretty sure Tank Johnson was on the verge of tears.

All in all, a nice effort.

Memo to NFL Films: Is it really necessary to begin every episode by telling us that Wade Phillips isn't a pushover? Sort of reinforces the thought that he is.

Adam Jones, Tank Johnson, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans

I presume he is talking about the D including scrub play?Because against the Bolts the 1st string D looked good to me.
