The latest on Terry Glenn's status

Glenn
According to my math, Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn made $1.25 million per catch last season. A knee injury kept him out of 15 regular-season games. Now his future with the team is hanging in the balance.
According to a Cowboys source, the team has imposed a Thursday deadline for reaching an agreement with Glenn for the 2008 season. As most of you know, Jerry Jones wants Glenn to sign an injury waiver that would pay him $500,000 instead of the $1.7 million he's set to make if he re-injures his knee. The Cowboys will board a charter flight for Oxnard, Calif., at high noon, and if Glenn's not on the plane, it probably means he's been released.
Of course, the last time I flew into Burbank, Calif., for Cowboys training camp, Glenn was on my commercial flight. But that's really not important now -- despite the fact that he prevented me from getting an upgrade.
According to my source, the Cowboys began early this morning trying to find common ground with Glenn. I'm told that Jones still believes something can get done with Glenn before the team leaves for training camp. But I'm not sure why he feels the need to come up with a self-imposed deadline. It's not like Glenn's going to practice every day in training camp. The Cowboys would be wise to simply see how some of their young receivers look in the preseason before deciding Glenn's fate.
But if he's released tomorrow, don't be surprised to see him join the Cowboys' South Florida affiliate -- otherwise known as the Miami Dolphins. Stay tuned to the NFL East blog for up-to-the-minute details.

Terry Glenn's contract status is still up in the air.
Never before has so much been written about a man who did so very little the previous season. If the Cowboys truly needed wide receiver Terry Glenn, they would've reached an agreement months ago.
The one reason owner Jerry Jones hasn't released him is the nightmare scenario of Terrell Owens getting injured and having to go with Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin as the starters. He's been attempting to find recourse for that scenario all summer, but things haven't worked out.
I just spoke with a member of the organization who is doing some last-minute packing before catching a noon charter. His thought is that the two sides will eventually reach an agreement.
I think Glenn will sign a contract that will pay him $750,000 if he re-injures the same knee. If he doesn't injure the same knee, he'll make the $1.7 million he's scheduled to make.
See how easy that was? But at this point, you have a team of doctors, lawyers and executives trying to come up with the right language in the contract. It's a combustible situation, but I still think Glenn will be in a Cowboys uniform when the dust settles.
I'm about to check in with Ed Werder to compare notes, so I'll get back to you later.
