I think this is a bad idea. It isn't broke. Don't fix it. The NFL Draft isn't, and shouldn't be, about entertaining the fans. Its about giving teams a chance to improve themselves, and giving young players a chance to realize their dream. If that is too boring, then turn it off. Obviously, with the fact that the draft is setting records for veiwership, that isn't happening.

There are other options. NFL Network could do 32 separate editions of NFL Draft Replay, where each teams picks' and War Room discussions are cut down to about an hour for all you casual fans out there.

Actaully it is broke. So it needs to be fixed. And teams have all year long to prepare their draft boards and get who there gonna choose. It doesn't take 15 minutes to make a decsion.

I agree. Stop monkeying around with stuff. First they want to add another regular season game and then make each team fly half way around the world. Now they want to mess with my Draft weekend. Don't they know it's taken me 7 years to get this thing right? My wife and kids know this is my weekend in the Spring. Don't mess with that!

Stupid NFL.:D

I don't think this will pass by the owners. They need their time for trades and to think. The NFL will offer them 2 options,

Option A: Expand the draft to Friday's primetime, because Saturday and Sunday take too long.

OR

Option B: Reduce the Day 1 time to 10 minutes per pick. This way it wont take record time to finish the first day.

The owners will pick option A. More time for the draft so 2nd round picks aren't mistake, spur of the moment picks and management can think it through.

Why don't they reduce the time allowed for each first round pick down by one minute every year for 5 years? In 5 years we will be down to 10 minutes for each pick.

I think there is way more going on in those 15 minutes than lots of folks realize. Its not just about picking the highest rated player on your board.

Its not broken. Leave it alone. I made fun of ESPN when the first started televising the draft. Now, its my favorite day in sports.

How is it broken? Are people tuning out and not paying attention? Are ESPN and NFLN not making enough money showing commercials during the most popular NFL show outside of the Super Bowl? Are teams getting the wrong players? How the **** are you gonna sit there and tell me the NFL Draft is broke?

It's about time...except for the negotiating with teams and listening to trade offers and just holding the phone hoping for someone to call, the first round should actually take less time than any other round because the teams have already researched these players more than any others and have basically run so many mocks that they know what they want to do most of the time.

Please shorten the times....I think the suggested times sound great....there will still be trades, but guys will pull the trigger much faster on them in order to avoid running out of time.

This will be a great change.

The NFL teams can make trades in later rounds when there is 5 minutes per pick, why not the first round? Might there be fewer trades but a faster draft? Sure, but why is that bad?

Do it.

IT won't surprise me if there are more trades simply because teams will pull the trigger faster on offers rather than waiting the full 15 minutes...there will also be less time to talk yourself out of something.

The first round is where the real problem is....there's no way in hell it takes any team on the clock 15 minutes to know whom they will select when they know so much about the guys in round 1. Even the team with the first selection, a team that knows exactly whom they will select, still waits the whole time in case someone calls and makes them an incredible offer.

The teams making trade offers are the teams that will have to speed things up in the 10 minute time frame....I'm 100% in favor of this change.

The draft should be what it is right now, a chance for the NFL teams to bolster their roster with fresh talent.

I think that the fanbase who watches the draft would watch it if it took a week to complete the 1st round.

Weather it's 15 or 10 minutes per pick, the casual observer of the draft is not any more inclined to watch than before.

I couldn't agree with you more!! The heck with the casual fan! Man, the draft is critical no need to rush it, and @@&* up the possible trade deals that need to get done, especially for us cowboys fans that have Jerry as our owner. Without the 15 minutes, we may not have gotten that first next year from cleveland. I would keep up with the draft even if it took all week long. Couldn't watch the whole time, but would be checking in as much as possible.
It's like playing chess, make your move too fast and your gonna be out of pawns, kings, queens, and etc. real dang quick!! The nfl has enough t.v. viewers to screw up the draft just to get a better rating.

Because every single year for the last 3 years we have set new records in time it takes to finsih these rounds. IF teams can wheel and deal and select the players they want in the 5-7 rounds, then why can't they do the same in the 1-4 rounds, when they know what players are most likely gonna be there, and who there gonna take.

I'm all for cutting down the time.

You can take trade calls and still pick in 10 minutes.

Teams will adjust.

Just do it NFL!

Why do I get the impression that this is being driven solely by television and not logic? Im sorry, but my team should not be rushed into making a decision in order to placate Joe Sixpack watching at home. If you're a real fan, you sit and wait for the pick. It's not like you had anything better to do. The damn lawn can wait. Would we have been able to pull off the Quinn trade in ten minutes? Doubtful.
