2009 Power Rankings: Week 10
RK (LW) TEAM REC COMMENT
1 (1) Saints 8-0-0 In Week 10 at the Rams, the Saints' run defense can expect to see plenty of Steven Jackson, regardless of the score. (Sando)
2 (2) Colts 8-0-0 Let the hype begin for another giant Patriots-Colts game in November. (Kuharsky)
3 (3) Vikings 7-1-0 Despite coming off the bye, they shouldn't lose any momentum. (Chadiha)
4 (6) Bengals 6-2-0 If the Bengals beat Pittsburgh in Week 10 to sweep the season series, the AFC North crown will be theirs to lose. (Chadiha)
5 (7) Steelers 6-2-0 They're looking for revenge after their first loss to the Bengals.(Chadiha)
6 (5) Patriots 6-2-0 With Tom Brady, the Pats are atop the AFC East again. Life is normal.(Clayton)
7 (4) Broncos 6-2-0 The offense's mistakes were more than the Broncos could overcome against Pittsburgh. (Kuharsky)
8 (8) Cowboys 6-2-0 A maturer Cowboys team is atop the NFC East. (Clayton)
9 (11) Falcons 5-3-0 Losses by the Packers and Bears are helping the Falcons' chances for a wild-card playoff berth. (Sando)
10 (13) Cardinals 5-3-0 Halfway to a 10-6 record thanks to four victories in four games away from University of Phoenix Stadium. (Sando)
11 (9) Eagles 5-3-0 Just when you think the Eagles will soar, they fall to earth, as they did against the Cowboys on Sunday. (Clayton)
12 (16) Chargers 5-3-0 Late heroics versus Giants could be a springboard for the rest of the season. (Kuharsky)
13 (14) Texans 5-4-0 Too many self-destructive elements to loss at Indianapolis; now the Texans have a bye to mull them. (Kuharsky)
14 (10) Ravens 4-4-0 What happened to that once-vaunted run defense? (Chadiha)
15 (15) Giants 5-4-0 If the Giants can't fix their problems during the bye week, their season will go bye-bye.(Clayton)
16 (12) Packers 4-4-0 Their loss to Minnesota made sense. The one at Tampa Bay was inexplicable. (Chadiha)
17 (20) Dolphins 3-5-0 The Dolphins are finding that the tougher schedule after an 11-win season is burdensome. (Clayton)
18 (18) Jets 4-4-0 Rex Ryan gave the Jets a week off. Now it's time for their defense to start inflicting pain. (Clayton)
19 (17) Bears 4-4-0 This team appears to be ready to fade. (Chadiha)
20 (19) 49ers 3-5-0 Playoffs? Mike Singletary wisely isn't talking about them after his team's fourth consecutive defeat. (Sando)
21 (23) Panthers 3-5-0 The Panthers have showed they can be a contending team when Jake Delhomme protects the ball. (Sando)
22 (21) Jaguars 4-4-0 Raise your hand if you had them at .500 after eight games. And no fibbing. (Kuharsky)
23 (26) Titans 2-6-0 With VY at QB, receivers have turned reliable, CJ has gone crazy and the defense has improved greatly. (Kuharsky)
24 (22) Bills 3-5-0 Trent Edwards' only remaining headache after missing two games is the Bills' offensive stats. (Clayton)
25 (24) Seahawks 3-5-0 The season pretty much will end unless the Seahawks can pull an upset at Arizona, where the Cardinals are 1-3. (Sando)
26 (25) Commanders 2-6-0 Unfortunately, the Commanders have to start looking to what they should do for next season. (Clayton)
27 (27) Raiders 2-6-0 What sort of cures were drawn up during the bye week? Can they work? (Kuharsky)
28 (28) Chiefs 1-7-0 The Chiefs helped cure the Jaguars' pass-rush problems in their loss at Jacksonville. (Kuharsky)
29 (29) Lions 1-7-0 The Lions have lost 24 of their past 25 games. Ouch! (Chadiha)
30 (30) Rams 1-7-0 The Rams play a tougher second-half schedule than any team in the NFC West, with the Saints visiting in Week 10. (Sando)
31 (32) Buccaneers 1-7-0 Give the Bucs credit for winning a game against a significantly more talented opponent.(Sando)
32 (31) Browns 1-7-0 What is this team doing on "Monday Night Football"? (Chadiha)

If losing to Dallas caused the Eagles to fall to earth then what was the result of their loss to the Raiders?

That was just a trap game. Not a big deal.

It's only taken into the ranking formula if DALLAS loses to a team like the Raiders.

Im pretty sure that's how it works out w/ that NFL ranking formula they have over there.

I think the word you're looking for John are "more maturer." Next would "most maturest."

I am so glad the Commanders need a QB in a year when the candidates are not so good. I hope they don't end up with Locker from Washington.

Is "maturer" a word? How about "more mature".

Whatever. I think we should be ahead of the Broncos.

You just know they will take Sam Bradford which is absolutely fine by me.

Anyone else think it's funny how we always seem to be the lowest ranked team when compared to teams with identical records in the ESPN power rankings? Not saying I necessarily disagree with them this week, but I do find it kind of funny...

I prefer it that way. I don't know why, but I prefer it when the 'Boys are ranked lower than they should be.

If the Cowboys finish in the top 10, do they get to go to the Sugar Bowl as an at large team? :)

Yeah, I don't actually mind flying under the radar. With the way the Boys have responded to being a favorite the last couple of years, I'm happy with not getting tons of fame yet.

we're better than the Bengals. I was actually thinking about this and thought no lower than 7th but ok 8th. The Bengals are a losing streak waiting to happen, just as the broncos have started doing.

I see some folks saying the Saints can't be had - they can and WILL be had at least once. They simply cannot stop the run. With all due respect to them....they are having a helluva season...

They are good, but when they face a team that limits their own mistakes, they will be in trouble.

It seems that every time somebody gets a big lead on the Saints, they start making foolish mistakes. Some of that is the because of the Saints, but a lot of it are the teams themselves.

If the Patriots get a lead on them in 3 weeks, don't expect them to implode like the Dolphins and Panthers did.

That will be a good game to watch.
