Prediction: Cowboys enter bye with a win
November, 7, 2014 By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

My prediction: Cowboys 31, Jaguars 17

Todd Archer

The Dallas Cowboys don’t just need to win this game, they must win this game. It doesn’t matter if it is pretty or ugly, they have to get to 7-3 to stop the losing streak and stop any of the doubt that might creep in with a third straight loss.

The Jaguars offer an interesting challenge because of their ability to get to the quarterback (27 sacks). The Cowboys have not dealt with pressure well in the last two defeats. It wasn’t just poor pass protection. It was also due to poor decisions by the quarterback and poor jobs by the receivers getting open. They must do a better job Sunday against the Jaguars.

The return of Tony Romo will cure a lot of those ailments but he struggled against the Commanders too in his last game even before getting hurt. While the Cowboys can’t expect Romo, sore back and all, to carry them, his presence will help them get back to the formula that led to six straight wins. The bye week could not come at a better time and the time off will feel even better after a win.

I think that's a great prediction. Turnovers will change that one way or the other.

Yea but a team on a two game losing street and playing a bad team entering the bye needs to win this game. Dallas can't afford to fall to 6-4 with division games coming up.

exactly having back to back loses starts to bring in questions and can get a team to really start pressing, this teams need a win and some rest. 7-3 get some guys banged up close to 100% with 6 games remaining

I have a feeling this one is going to go down to the wire. Like the last 2 defenses we played, they know we're going to try to run the ball esp with an ailing QB. They have nothing to lose and will throw everything they have at us including exotic run and safety blitzes. It's on grass and footing is tough there so I hope Romo can plant without too much pulling/ stretching and stess on his torso. He does not have to get hit in the back to reinjure it. The wrong twist or turn can put him down. Season is over if he keeps reinjuring himself. I'm with the "sit him this game" group but he's going to go so watch your blindside TR.
On the defensive side of the ball, it's Jekyll and Hyde. We tend to let teams like this stay in games and we're in a circus environment all week (more than usual). Hope coach has them ready, focused and a few twists to his game plan.

Yo jobs, the Yags Bortles has thrown the most INTs this year. We're an opportunistic defense. I'm predicting two INTs by our D this Sunday in jolly ol London. Personally I don't care how the turnovers come about, just get the dang ball and score. We need to be 7-3 heading into our BYE.

I hear you brother. It will take turnovers to beat us IMO.

They don't have to be the best team in the league sunday, just the best team in the stadium. This win would set us up rather nicely heading into the meat of the schedule. After that it's all about posturing for the playoffs.

The Jaguars have shown a little life lately. They're still awful but certainly capable of beating a Romo-less Cowboys team.

The Jags weakness is at LB. Murray should have a strong rushing game. Barring turnovers, there is no reason on paper why Murray doesn't carry the offense. Randle will also chip in. Cowboys win 27-17 in a relatively close game until the 4th quarter.

Poor job of WR's getting open? I saw plenty that were open Weeden just couldn't get them the ball.

No injuries
Clean game for boys with no turnovers
Romo and Murray rest in last quarter
