ESPN: Raiders will regret spending millions on 'average' Hall

I love a good "bash toast" thread as much as the next guy and don't want to hijack the thread, but the read made me think about TNew more than Hall.

what the hay? other than playing CB, how is Newman like Hall? Hall gets beat more in a month than Newman has in his entire career...Hall gives up long tds or big plays on almost a weekly basis, Newman's probably given up 5 tds his entire career, and never gets beat deep...Newman is also a FAR better tackler than that pusskatore Hall, who makes Deion Sanders look like Dick Butkus in terms of tackling ability

sorry BD, I see absolutely no comparison between the two.

I explained myself above. There are those that think in todays NFL, CBs,even the very good ones are not worth the money they are getting.

Yeah I read from the beginning to end and see that now.

Still, Newman is so good that he would be one of the few who would be worth the going rate. The guy just blankets WR's and is extremely reliable...I'd hate to see him playing elsewhere...assuming he stays in tip top shape, there's no reason he wont be really good for another 3-4-5 seasons

Look, a good pass rush (see NY Giants) is absolutely more important than your CB play. But lets not kid ourselves. You gotta have good players at all postiions if you honestly wanna win the championship of an incredibly competitive professional billion $ sport. I dont care if you got LT, Strahan, Reggie White, Warren Sapp, Demarcus Ware and Albert Haynesworth all on the same squad. If you have one just absolutely glaring weak link (see Jacgues Reeves or roy williams) then the O coord can call plays that call for quick routes that will get the ball outta the QB's hands b4 even the best pass rusher can get there.

The philosophy and argument of whether big dollars should be spent on high priced free agents should definately be had, but despite this converation, the fact remains that your CB's have to have the requisite talent/ability to be able to blanket guys for at least a few seconds. Otherwise...on 3rd and 7, those chains will keep on moving. I've seen enough of watching our D play well, only to have it ruined on 3rd and long. (see TE's vs. Roy Wily or and WR vs. Reeves....ALL LAST YR!)

If Hall isn't the most overrated player in the NFL he is in the top 5 IMHO.
Terrell Owens torched Hall in that Sunday night game in 2006. It wasn't even a contest. Some players are all reputation. I'm thankful that Hall didn't end up here.

Nothing in football I love to watch more than a badmouther/trashtalker get shown up or just clobbered.

 to you and your entire family.............

Did I mention I agree? :)

Thanks for the gif post Boyzmamacita, I love that clip. That and the one where Marion runs over the opposing player, can't recall who.

By popular demand.:lmao2:

I can never get enough of that play, or the one with Witten rumbling downfield sans helmet...

i always said hall was overrated he runs his mouth like hes a premier cb when in actuality he gets burned repeatedly.

he shouldnt even had made his 2nd pro bowl apppearance. newman was robbed that year while this bum repeatedly got torched that season.

al davis gives hall 70 mill when he argueably has the best corner in the league on his team and all he gets is a franchise tag?

There were several.

I like when he ran over Archuleta and when he stiff armed Rodney Harrison.

The Harrison stiff arm was the best...................................although I did enjoy watching Archie get hammered.

I just may have to get that dvd out and watch that game for the comic relief that Hall provides.

Hall might be overrated and now overpaid (well, certainly overpaid), but he is young (24 IIRC) and has a lot of athleticism and potential still unrealized.

Maybe he never becomes an elite #1 Cb. But I think if you gave him a pass rush and proper coaching (which he has never had in the pros) he will be a every good #2 CB.

The best one of all is the Patriot game. They had him dead to rights in the end zone several times plus Flozell flung Harrison to the ground like he ws a sack of beans. 1 more missed tackle and Barber scores. Excuse my french, but that play makes me horny..............:

and part of me doesn't fault TO for spitting in his face.

I think that was more a case of some unintentional 'spittle' finding its way to Hall's face during some trash talk than TO purposely spitting on the guy.

He's had a pass rush and proper coaching since he's been in the league...

he sux because 1) his technique still sux and 2) his "speed" doesnt show up on game day...he is constantly beaten deep and outran by slower guys

and that doesnt even take into account his horrendous attitude problems and awful tackling

he's a lousy CB

Players who haven't realized their potential and #2 cbs don't deserve 70 million.

Anyone else find the irony that ESPN is calling him overrated, when they are the catalyst that feeds into his hype?:laugh2:

"Everybody pumps him up like he's Deion Sanders," Lions receiver Roy Williams said. "But he's not Deion Sanders. He's DeAngelo Hall. He's not the shutdown type of corner that everybody expects him to be."

:laugh2:

I like Roy Williams even more now.

Garbage from day one. Its a joke that BSPN is the one that built him up so that he got Pro Bowl appearences that belonged to Newman. Now they tear him down.
