Relationship between Tony Romo, Dak Prescott will endure

"I thanked him for everything he’s done for me,” Prescott told SB Nation’s Thomas George. "He said it’s been a crazy couple of weeks for him. I’m hoping he is happy. I hope it is what he wanted. He has great knowledge of the game. He will give fans a bird's-eye view of the game.

"He has knowledge of the game like an offensive coordinator does. I think of myself as knowledgeable, but I respect his knowledge, too. He taught me things last year, like if we scored touchdowns on our first couple of drives, to look out, to expect the blitz more on the third possession, and ways to take advantage of that."

----------------------------

In an appearance on Mike Krzyzewski’s SiriusXM show, “Basketball and Beyond with Coach K,” which will air Friday at 4 p.m. ET, the Duke basketball coach asked Romo about his relationship with Prescott.

"It probably wouldn’t have went the same way if Dak wasn’t a good kid," Romo said. "He’s very respectful. He's someone that wants to learn. … If you really just care about football, if at the core you really just care about the game, I’m going to like you as a teammate. I’m going to root for you. I’m going to want to see you succeed, and I’m going to want to go out of my way to help you. He has the appetite to want to be great and he’s got a skill set that’s good, and I think that he’s just going to continue to develop it."

It's all about respect and it's clear these two respect each other.

Too bad fans couldn't do the same throughout the season.

I like Dak because he's not phony, and he did it the right way.

Dak never bad-mouthed Tony Romo in an attempt to keep his job after Tony healed position or lobby for his position as a preemptive strike, so to speak. He didn't do anything to exacerbate the situation, agitate Romo or unnecessarily create a rift on the team - as some other heir-apparents did (See Aaron Rodgers who spoke about how Brett Favre never helped him as a backup).

No, Dak quietly went about his job, understanding that his time is going to come and he would be named the starter if he just continued to apply himself and improve his game.

He kept saying the right thing - "This is Tony's team" - understanding that the only thing he could control was his play. And he let his play and his play alone do the talking so that when it was time, Jason Garrett couldn't help but keep Dak in.

There may be some competitive jealousy from Romo (even if he doesn't voice it), but no one - not even Romo - can say that in attitude Dak wasn't anything but the epitome of class, diginity and an example of how one handles quarterback transitions like this.

And you have to give credit to Romo too. I don't care what Skip and the rest say, Romo would have gained nothing by making a stink about his situation. Him not complaining and acting like a petulant child would have just given his credits more ammunition to tarnish his legacy. He handled it with class also - admitting his desire to continue playing but understanding the nature of NFL football.

Kudos to both men.

Awwwwww!

I just had a vision of both of them, hand in hand, running through Dealy Plaza, scattering the pigeons ....

Not a bad successor to 9. Both of these guys are pure class. They both love the Dallas Cowboys. It takes a real man to do what 9 did, and it takes a special person to recognize and respect the situation and 4 is a special guy.

We lucked out going from one classsy hard working guy to another. Both not given a chance to amount to anything. I'm sure there is a special bond there

I wish Romo wasn't going to CBS but staying with the Cowboys as a QB coach or offensive coordinator. Or some form of offensive coach.

Amen. Great post. Thats what folks need to understand. Great Cowboy transition. Tradition means something. If you didn't admire Romo before...you must admire him for his behaviour after his unfortunate injury. Maybe, l didn't like his onfield performance...but Tony is a classy Cowboy.

coaching takes your life away outside football that most players turned coach find out the hard way when they make the jump.

tony would rather raise his young kids and play golf 6 days a week making millions for cbs.

Definitely I agree it's a better decision for him. I just wish for us that his knowledge of the game and knowledge of our offense was sticking with the team.

I wonder how hard it would be to start a new career after being a millionaire. I mean you're set for life, why work at all? I wish I had that problem
