Roger Staubach talks about the Cowboys
November, 10, 2010 Nov 1010:24AM CTEmail Print Comments By Calvin WatkinsWednesday morning, former Cowboys quarterback and Hall of Famer Roger Staubach talked about what is wrong with the current Cowboys on Mike and Mike.

...

"It's a combination of a lot of mistakes," Staubach said. "Mistakes are I guess are part of discipline and other issues. I think we were leading the league or close to it in penalties and just making mistakes in [special teams]."

Staubach also said the injury to quarterback Tony Romo hurts the team but he's confident that possibly Jason Garrett can move things in a positive direction.

"They just need a change right now and Jason Garrett is well respected," Staubach said. "He's done a pretty darn good job on offense and now he's got to take over the team and get it turned around but they've been in dire straits this whole week just trying to figure this thing out. And of course everybody likes Wade Phillips and it's a shame that they're 1-7 if you're a Cowboys fan."

I have it from a solid source that 12 year old girls who don't understand the game of football disagree with this assessment of the job Jason has done at OC the last three years (we're not counting 2007, because that was the year Sparano was here and ran the offense for us in secret).

So if Roger told you to jump off a bridge ...

Facts will always trump opinions.

Pedestrian seems a better descriptor for his offensive coordinating.

Sounds like Staubach still knows how to talk to the media after all these years. Talking for 20 minutes and saying nothing haha.

He rarely publicly knocks the Cowboys, and since he's not in that locker room or around the team on a daily basis, his opinions are purely subjective. Just because it comes from his lips doesn't make it "gospel." We all love Roger, but idolatry has its limits.

Total, complete balls.
Roger's opinion on NFL offense is not purely subjective just because he's not on the team on a daily basis. That argument couldn't even have sounded good in your head.

And acknowledging that a HoF QB understands NFL offense and what is and isn't a good job of offensive coordinating doesn't even approach 'idolatry.' Unless 'idolatry' means the same thing as 'common sense' in your otherwise completely upside-down estimation.

This would really sting ... assuming I gave a **** what you thought, but I don't. Listen up, stalker: Staubach is not infallible. He could be just as wrong about this team as fellow HOFer Emmitt was last year with that 8-8 prediction. Taking snaps under center in the 1970s does not make him an expert on modern day offenses or Jason Garrett's abilities. Not all opinions are informed ones. Nor would it be difficult to find other NFL greats who do not have faith in Garrett or the collective talent level on this team. Shouldn't they get the benefit of the doubt, too? Nah, they're just "haters" or something, whereas Roger's pro-Dallas musings are objective and incontrovertible.

It is my opinion that your opinion is purely subjective. :)

All opinions are subjective, but I believe Roger's is probably more informed than most on this forum.

This is honestly nothing more than a former Cowboys who loves the team, rooting for Jason to do a good job. If you look at what he actually said, its obvious. He didn't say JG will do a good job, he said he's gotta try and turn it around.. which we all would agree.

Stop lying, Roger.. you know that Garrett is not respected by the defense and even some offensive players.. I saw it in the internet.
