ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys' decision-makers aren't going to declare this publicly, but they desperately want Rolando McClain to win the starting job at middle linebacker. They’re well aware of how much this defense needs a playmaker, particularly with Sean Lee sidelined for the season by a knee injury. They saw that kind of potential in McClain when scouting him at Alabama before the Oakland Raiders selected him with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 draft.

It will be telling in the next preseason game who starts at MLB because I think that will be the guy who starts vs SF.

Yep. A lot of clues can be found that 3rd preseason game.

I can't wait to see the look on the Dolphins' faces when we trot out Zach Minter with the starting defensive line.

Business is about to pick up.

Dolphin starting interior line might come down with a an injury bug this week

LOL!

That (Zinter starting) wouldn't surprise me.

But at this point ABH (anyone but Hayden).

I still have my doubts about McClain mentally (quitting the game is never good) I hope he proves me wrong. I like what he brings physically to this defense.

There are a lot of people that quit things in life but at some point make another attempt.

Well lets cross fingers. If there is a problem I doubt we'll see it in training camp -- usually guys with histories like this tend to fall apart when things get tough -- when things are going bad overall, etc.

I think he'll make the roster, probably even start, and then its a 50-50 crapshoot if he flames out during the season.

Amen. Same for McClain at MLB.

I'm not throwing the baby out with the wash water.

On a personal level for him, he's not a true problem poster child.

I'm not going to throw the first stone on that kid at least.

Where did one's stats come from? Bias?

He made it out of camp. If he was going to quit I think he would've done so in the 1st or 2nd week. I admit that I was very skeptical early on. But I think we can almost exhale here.

For the next preseason game I believe McClain will be the starter at MLB and Durant at WLB.
