I have no problems with that. Seems like Romo moves the ball better when the play-calling is taken out of the mix.

I think my question was is that how aikman handled things during his years. I honestly dont remember and for all I know Aikman might have had alot of control. That might factor into how Jason sees QB running things.
Good question.
I'm pretty sure Romo already was calling more plays than Aikamn due to the nature of the game.
In any case, defenses are more complex and situational now than back then.
A good QB really does need more real-time control now.

If you catch the defense in a short yardage package and then shift gears to a fast break offense--denying them the ability to sub out--you can do some real short-term damage.

as you know

According to Ed Werder today on ESPN radio, during negotiations Romo insisted on having a more significant say in offensive gameplanning, including playcalling, especially as it relates to running more no-huddle at certain times during games.

He also said the additional involvement lately was purely the demand of Romo, not Jerry or Garrett.

There has been apparently a mild rift between coach and quarterback over this for some time.

Yes, I heard this and I hope it's true!

Supposedly Romo has been wanting to use more no huddle and Garrett was the guy not letting it happen.

Well looks like now we're finally going to see a more up tempo Cowboy offense instead of this lethargic football we see for 3 1/2 quarters.

Urgency for a full 4 quarters maybe? Please?

This really isn't news.. while folks were bashing Jerry for talking about the Peyton Manning time, it was in the meat of the article about Romo's role growing.

But I guess the changeup is that Romo demanded it instead of teh team demanding it of him.

*shrug*

I think Witten pretty much said what you just said.

On the subject of no-huddle; This mentality to change the pace at times to capitalize on mismatches is, I think, in part that point guard coming out in Romo.
Push the pace when you have the numbers and cause some real damage. Then when things equilibrate, go back to regular sets. Brady is great at it.

Great to hear. It's no secret that we're at our best in the no-huddle.

If the OL actually steps up and plays at a high level this year, I'm all for running a conventional offense until we "need" to go no-huddle. But if by Week 2 or 3 it looks like our OL will be an issue again, let's switch up the strategy to fit our personnel. No-huddle masks the shaky OL and allows Romo to be an instinctive playmaker, which is when he's at his best anyways.

Exactly. It is no secret. Unless your name is Jason Garrett.

Garrett doesn't do much of anything to help out a shaky O-line.

I really hope we step on the gas this year with our offense and stop playing like we have an excellent O-line.

He's really golfing. Romo doesn't do things like this.

So does this mean that we can go from 'Jerry needs to shut up' to 'Garret sucks so bad his QB needs to run the offense?'

:laugh2:

Exactly. Wasn't the fact that JJ was insisting Romo be more Peyton-like the juicy story a few days back? Now it's the opposite. Whatever yanks more chains I guess.

Great news. I've always felt as though Romo has a better idea of running the offense than JG.

I agree. Tony has always shown excellent decision-making while on the run.

Is our run game any better when we go no huddle? I don't recall

Garrett operates under Jimmy Johnson school of thought. Did Aikman have autonomy over Norv Turner and Jimmy late in games? I don't remember.

The problem is...that coach was Jimmy NOT Jason Garrett, who has proven very little. I'm a Garrett fan, even.

Understandable, as it's Romo's ribs that are on the line, and I bet he really likes them.....

He's been running for his life for so long because all those defensive linemen enjoy bringing the Bar.B.Que sauce to dine on his ribs.:laugh2:

I always thought tony should be involved more. When he's on the field he's constantly yelling at the oline and receivers. Maybe this will help with all our issues

The offense really can't get any worse. Let Tony take control and lets see what happens.

Just remember, when we ran no huddle, it was usually toward the end of the game, when we were down by two scores, and the defense had softened. And though it worked better, it was anything but foolproof. I remember one game - I believe it was the Saints game - where we had the ball late in the first half, and ran no huddle. It didn't work, and the Saints got the ball back with enough time to get a score before the half. This board nearly erupted.

So yes, in certain spots, the no huddle can be much more effective. I'm hesistant to embrace a change to an offense, howerer, that is primarily no huddle. If it doesn't work consistently, the criticism will return. Question is, toward who will it be directed?

Jimmy didn't produce a whole lot his first two years as HC either.
