Hamlin expected to play vs. Saints

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys free safety Ken Hamlin appears to be ready to return after a four-week layoff due to a high ankle sprain.

Hamlin practiced Tuesday for the first time since injuring his right ankle in the Nov. 15 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Coach Wade Phillips said Hamlin is expected to play Saturday night against the New Orleans Saints.

Phillips said he believes Hamlin, who calls the defensive signals, will help the Cowboys make adjustments against the Saints' complicated offense. However, Phillips acknowledged that it could be difficult for a safety missing a month to return against the NFL's top-ranked offense.

"I don't think he'll make any mental mistakes back there," Phillips said. "Physically, how quickly he'll react to things and get back in the swing of it, I don't know for sure. I think he will, but he may be a little rusty."

Alan Ball has been an adequate replacement for Hamlin, whose lack of playmaking was a concern before his injury.

Barber doesn't have much to say

IRVING, Texas -- As usual, running back Marion Barber refused to answer questions from reporters.

"Don't even waste your time," Barber said repeatedly to a handful of reporters who tried to talk to him.

It's well known that Barber does not want to talk to the media. The Valley Ranch media horde usually respects his wishes, but there are times when questions need to be asked of the starting running back.

This is one of those times. Owner/general manager Jerry Jones questioned Barber's role last week. Then Barber was stuffed three straight plays from the 1-yard line, a key turning point in the Cowboys' loss to the San Diego Chargers. He's produced like an average back since being paid like an elite one.

NFL rules state that players must make themselves available to the media. Those that don't are subject to a $25,000 fine. When told he might be wasting his money, Barber didn't seem bothered.

"I'm blessed," he said as he walked out of the locker room.

Romo remains the holder

IRVING, Texas -- As Jerry Jones noted Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys do not have a holder problem.

Maybe Mat McBriar wasn't to blame for Nick Folk's field goal woes, but the punter won't be asked to resume holding duties. Franchise quarterback Tony Romo will continue in that role.

"He's a great holder," Folk said. "No complaints there."

On that 4th down, Barber was the up man and Felix was deep. As the play goes, if Romo had turned to hand off to Felix, the play would have likely lost yards. SD had 2 men there in Felix's path.

That play was doomed from the get go...it's like SD was in the huddle.

The playcall itself isn't what bothered.

There is no excuse not to score a TD from that close in.

You should be able to tell the defense the play before the ball is snapped what is coming and still score on that.

No surprise from Marion Barber, he never talks about anything. He didn't even talk in the Tulius locker room videos.

So basically you sign a contract and then don't live up to your end of the contract. To me that is breaking your contract and all monies gained from it should be forfeited. I am sick of Barber's I don't want to talk to anyone. Are you that much of a mental midget that you can't even speak to the media and fans. This is just another example of what is wrong with this team. Players do what they want to do and don't live up to their end of the bargain or contract. Sadly, we accept it.

I really think that if Tony is going to be criticized for everything that he says to the media, MBIII should be held accountable for not talking to them at all.

His leadership is lacking way more than Tony's in that regard.

Except that he has never spoken with the media. Long before his contract was signed.
Maybe he's smart enough to know how the media will be on their knees one day and trying to virtually crucify him the next.

I dont know why we wouldnt do a qb sneak. We were on the 1/2 yard line basically. if you cant push that than we have major line issues.

Well if MB III can't do it after multiple times from the 1 then that in itself indicates that the O-line didn't do it's job. Why aren't reporters wanting to talk to Big or Free, Adams or Kosier?
