ESPN: Roy Williams Released

Doesn't he drop the ball a lot? I hate that in WRs.

He had some drops, an issue most receivers struggle with at some point in time. He wasn't even in the Top 10 in the NFC in drops IIRC. Doesn't make him a bad receiver; Austin led the NFC in drops last season.

The guy is crafty, smart and comes up clutch more often than not. I've always watched him with a keen interest from a distance for obvious reasons (San Jose State alum).

I think some team will likely offer him starter type money (St. Louis, Seattle, et cetera), so the cost to sign him may be prohibitive.

Probably formulating some pathetic spin job no doubt.

TwoDeep, RandyWhite are a few that were the most vocal and dogmatic.

I don't expect to hear much from them. Just thought I would call out the general populous because I took much heat for say he would be audi 5000 geeeeee... :p:

OMG.. This has so made my day! #BYEROYLOL

very interesting if true since from everything i've read and heard by cutting or releasing roy williams it will cost the cowboys several million by doing so .. so for a team that is cap strapped that would be a very peculiar move

You heard wrong. We saved money.

No, frankly you are dreaming if you think Crayton was anything close to what Roy could do and had done. NO one outside of Roy haters would make that claim.

Care to look at the numbers?

A comparitive look is easy to do with these two players. Both played in no. 2 and no. 3 receiving roles with the team.

Now you made a baseless assertion ("NO one outside of Roy haters would make that claim..."), care to support it with data.

I will, if you wanna go there.

You're not reading what Adam is writing.

Dear God,

Thank you for not letting me buy that Roy Williams jersey last year.

Oh, and for my smokin' hot wife as well.

Amen.
pics?

I wonder where will Roy rank in Cowboy lore on the "bust" ometer? That trade just turned out horrific.

I looked. Depsite playing for a team decimated at WR that forced a middling talent like Crayton into a starters spot, and despite playing with a Pro Bowl QB, he put up 28 catches for 500 yards and a ton of media quotes of him running his mouth.

In other words, pretty much the same mediocre production and mouth running what he did every year in Dallas for six years. Which is why no one in the league was willing to give up more than a 7th rounder for him.

Yup, 28 catches for 514 yards in nine games. Also, nice way to distort reality because he actually only started two games.

All of that without a training camp to practice, adjust to a new quarterback in Rivers and not to mention learn the playbook.

Hilarious.

But guys like you were still running an apologetic for Roy Williams saying "it takes time to get in-synch with a QB....Williams really seems like he's on the same page..." THREE STINKIN' SEASONS LATER.

:lmao2:

Anybody besides ESPN reporting this? Did he go to VR today? Not saying it isn't true, just curious.

Doing what they have to do to get under that cap today.

Uno just wet himself.

In other news, we lost a pretty good 3rd WR. Now let's hope Dez and Miles hold up.

I was hoping the Cowboys would retain Roy for at least another season. I own his jersey, after all, and there's nothing sexy about a Roy Williams throwback.

I don't blame folks who were assuming he wouldn't get cut because of monetary/salary cap ramifications.

What was hilarious was the few who were saying he should be kept because of his play.

RandyWhite hilariously made the case that paying Roy $8 million a season is actually a good deal for a #3 WR.

Considering just the guys who are UFAs, I'd have to say that Breaston, James Jones, or Lance Moore would make the most sense for the 'Boys.

A few lesser known guys who are third WR possibilities are around as well, although they are not as talented, generally speaking.A couple that come to mind are Brandon Stokley (Seattle), Mark Clayton (St. Louis - had a season-ending knee injury last year, but is 9 months removed and should be ready to go...Rams expected to re-sign him), Mike Sims-Walker (Jacksonville - think he'll get starting money elsewhere, but his height and leaping ability could be nice in the redzone), and Jacoby Jones (Houston).

Several of these guys have return ability as well, so that's a plus. For me, I take Jones or Breaston if I can get them for a reasonable deal, with Moore as the third choice. But I fully expect them to pick up a vet.

Have we changed our minds on cutting Roy yet?

Lance Moore or James Jones. Breaston would probably command too much money. Jacoby Jones shows flashes but has not amounted to much despite Andre Johnson taking pressure off him and Schaub slinging the rock.
