Buzzmaster: You got it, SportsNation. JG is back in the house! He'll be re-joining the show at the top of the hour so get your questions in NOW!
Mad Mike (Houston): Well, after what seems like a break that lasted forever, JG is back in "Green Nation" to talk about training camp and the upcoming season. I know JG has been working on his golf game, but there will be no sandbagging! MM
Jeremy Green: It was a long break from the Nation but great to be back. The handicap is a little lower, but it is time to get back to work camps are firing up. A few updates. I am also chatting this Friday at 1:00 PM and the new PodCast which has been renamed 3-point stance starts on July 23rd. Yes... summer is over. Football is here and I am glad to be back.
Glenn (Cumberland, RI): What in God's name are the Titans doing trying to covert M. Griffin into a CB when they have no one to play alongside Hope at Safety? Does Griffin even project as a top-flight CB?
Jeremy Green: I agree. They new the corner position was going to be an issue and if they really wanted a corner they should have just taken Aaron Ross from Texas. Griffin is a Safety and they should leave him there.
Paul (Albany, OR): Senor Green. Welcome Back. Can you give a Rams fan some hope for the coming season please? Will the defense play well enough to make the playoffs? Thank you.
Jeremy Green: I have a ton of hope for the offense. This team is going to score 25-30 points every week with Holt, Bruce and Bennett. Plus Jackson and rookie Brian Leonard and I can't foget about McMichael who should be huge. I think the key to the entire defense will be moving Carriker inside. If he can be stout vs. the run and give the Rams more chances with the ball and their offense, they have a shot. I think the NFC West - all 4 teams are anywhere from 8-8 to 9-7.... maybe one slips in at 10-6. Going to be highly competitive though.
Jason (Indiana): How big of a threat do you think Devin Hester will be on offense?
Jeremy Green: I think he is a huge threat. I have heard his routes have been impressive. We know he has outstanding hands. He is a threat even if he does not get the ball on a given play because his speed commands double team respect and opens the field up for everyone.
Bevan (Utah): What kind of season do you project for Adrian Peterson in Minnesota? I've heard that he has been a beast in camp. Will he and Chester Taylor split carries 50/50 or do you think one will get the bulk of the carries? Thanks
Jeremy Green: Taylor will get them early, but I would expect Peterson as he gets more comfortable in the offense to get his share as well. I wou.ld say closer to 60-40 for Taylor and I also know they are working on a lot of packages where they are in the game at the same time.
Arnold (California): what up big green...lets talk about the niners what do u expect and give me some hope. i feel great about this season
Jeremy Green: I predicted they would win the Division and will stand by that. The additons of Clements and Lewis solidfy the secondary. I think Lelie will be better outside of the West Coast offense as the Niners like to go vertical more. Patrick Willis has a chance to be DROY. Aubryao Franklin gives them good inside depth and that other guy Frank Gore on offense is pretty good too. Smith is the key. How can he perform with Turner gone? I think he continues his improvement and the 49ers win the NFC West.
Majeed: JG, Hope you enjoyed the 2 month vacation. Mike is still waiting for his steak!
Jeremy Green: I E-mailed Mike and he never responed to me. At his SBC Global E-mail address. I was in San Diego for a week. Told him I would take you both out. Tell him to give me a shout and I will shoot some Morton's gift certificates out to him.
Matt (Iowa): JG, what are your thoughts on the Cowboys? I don't see any holes, and with a weak NFC, is it too much to think Super Bowl bound?
Jeremy Green: Well the NFC is wekaer then the AFC, but the NFC East is still pretty good. I would put Dallas in that mix with the Saints and Eagles who will be chmpoing at the Bears heals. I disagree on no weaknesses though. Tony Romo has not played an entire season so even though I love the upsode he is still a ? to me.
Matt Millen (Detroit, MI): How much of a bonus incentive do you think I'll receive after my team goes 3-11 and I draft Mario Manningham next year?
Jeremy Green: Glad to see Matt Millen is back on the chat this season!!
Brad(NM): Hey JG..welcome back! I gotta ask you a Bills question, so how do you think Marshawn will perform in his rookie season in their field-spreading passing attack?
Jeremy Green: I think he is going to be solid. I think he goes over the 1,000 yard mark as a rookie. The Bills invested a lot of money in the line and it will be better. I think he is going to make a lot of plays catching the ball out of the backfield as well.
Derek (Canada): JG, you have to be excited about the Raiders addition of Donvovan Darius. He can help stop LT and LJ and Henry while Huff chases the likes of Gates and Gonzales around the field.
Jeremy Green: Loved it. They can play the big nickel now on early downs and have Darius in the game for their extra LB. Darius is like a LB anyways. Huge upgrade to the Radiers run defense to go along with their #1 ranked pass defense from last season. The leadership will be huge a well.
Joe (Indy): JG - How about that Freeney contract! Not many people thought the Colts would commit that kind of money on defense.
Jeremy Green: I did not really like it. I am glad for the player, but to give up 30 million guaranteed to a player coming off a 5.5 sack season seems in excess. That said, this team finally kept a defensive player that helps them win, so you have to like it from that stand point.
Noah (Fairfax, VA): JG, make me feel better, I just bet that the Panthers will win the NFC South. Also, can you shed any light on Pepper's contract situation????
Jeremy Green: I can't do that Noah. I think the Panthers will compete for a playoff spot. I would not put them there today based on Delhomme at QB. He played very poorly last season and is not getting any younger. He is supposed to be a QB that manages the game, yet they were 32nd on offense in 3rd down conversaions. Panthers and Falcons will be battling for 2nd in the NFC South.
Chris (Hermosa Beach, CA): JG - Great to have you back! With all the talk of the Pats improved passing game w/ all the new WR's...what about the rushing attack, can Maroney handle the load?
Jeremy Green: I think they have to be a little careful with him. I don't think he is every going to be a guy that can consistently carry it 25X per game and stya healthy. That said - his 17-20 carries and some catches out of the backfield have a chance to be some explosive plays with the way this offense can now spread you out.
Henry (NY): Are sacks a littler overrated as the defining statistic for a defensive end? Can't a defensive end disrupt offenses in other ways?
Jeremy Green: A little bit. Freeney had a ton of hits on the QB and the run defense was not very good meaning the Colts defense faced a lot more 3rd and less then 5's. When that happens the QB is going to take more 3 and 5 step drops negating even the best pass rusher's ability to get to the QB.
Joe (AZ via Chicago): GREENER - BEEN TOO LONG! Are you going to be the lone voice with ESPN that thinks Grossman will be better this year? With the additions of Hester and Olsen to the offense, he should only continue to grow. Let's not kid ourselves here, either - take away 1 MNF game last year (AZ - 6 turnovers), and he's probably a Pro Bowl candidate
Jeremy Green: Hey Joe. Hope the AC is keeping you cool man. I was with Rex all last season and I will stick with him. Early injuries - he is still young and does not have a ton of experience. I think he is going to get better. I like the Olsen additon to go with Clark. Rex throws an excellent seam route and has two TE's that can get down the field. Rex will be better this season. Let's not forget either... the man took his team to the Super Bowl.
Soren (LA): Jeremy: Is Champ, Ferguson, Lynch, and Bly the best starting secondary in the NFL?
Jeremy Green: I would put them 3rd. I would have the Ravens #1 and the Bears #2.
Matt (Iowa): No JG, the defense took them to the Super bowl. Rex lost it for them
Jeremy Green: I understand that. He was there though and they would not have been there with any other QB on their roster.
Michael (Newark, OH): Green, I'm a Browns fan and now, coming down from our draft high, I'm realizing we aren't much better then we were last year besides our O-line. Why didn't we make a play for another play making reciever or big time defender? I mean even signing Darius would have made sense in the development of Pool and Jones!!!
Jeremy Green: The Browns have spent a lot of money in free agency over the past two seasons, so there is only so much you can do. I agree Darius would have helped. As for being better? They are in a lot of areas. The problem is that they aren't at QB and for that reason it is once again going to be a struggle for them. This team has 7-9 to 8-8 talent... the QB won't allow them to be that though.
Bryan (CA): Who do you see stepping up and taking the broncos #2 reciever spot this season?
Jeremy Green: Brandon Marshall. He looked like a stud last preseason before the injury bug hit. I have all the respect in the world for Rod Smith and what he has accomlished in his career but he can't get open anymore and they can't let him hold Marshall back from more playing time this year.
egami (iowa): Hey, JG, thanks for the chat...so, what's the deal behind the Josh Booty signing in Oakland? Is it the LSU connections? Is it the USC brotherhood / Kiffin connection? I am thinking ultimately the guy won't be in for the long haul.
Jeremy Green: Camp body only.
reno marion heights pa: Is there anything to a rumer I heard that Larry Johnson the running back from KC may be traded to Dallas?
Jeremy Green: There has been some talk about Dallas. Dallas will have the two one's next season and one could be very high because it is the Browns. Green Bay has also been mentioned. The Chief's can't trade him though... he is their entire offense right now.
Rob (KC): Welcome back Jeremy! With the drastic changes the Texans made this offseason (Schaub, Green etc.) what do you see for them? Better? Worse? Same ol' incompetence?
Jeremy Green: They will be slightly better. Schaub is going to have some of the same issues though. O-line is still not great and Green will be better but is on the downside of his career. Having Kevin Walter as your #2 receiver does not bode well. I think defense is where they need to make strides this season and then they can address the offense in free agency one more time next season.
Ryan (denver): With all the moves the Broncos made in the off-season, does their season rest solely on the progression of Jay Cutler?
Jeremy Green: I would agree with that statement with one exception. Cutler can't do it alone and that means they need to find another playmaker to step up opposite of Walker. The rest of the pieces are solid. D-line much better, excellent secondary, Henry in the backfield and an always solid O-line will have Denver back in the playoffs if Cutler plays well and Marshall steps up.
Dan (Hamden, CT): Man you really don't want to answer an Eagles question, do you? How many wins do you see for them with a health McNabb and a balanced offense?
Jeremy Green: OK the first whine of the new season. I love it. I think the Eagles go 10-6 this season. I think they make the playoffs. They need to remember their committment to run the ball last season when McNabb got hurt. If they do that and finally get some offensive balance, they are as good as anyone in the NFC.
Mike Portage, IN: With all the problems the Bears have had with negativity this offseason. Do you think it will affect their play next season.
Jeremy Green: No. Part of that was Lovie's contract and they took care of that. They took care of Vasher. Briggs and Brown are still slight issues but this team is too good to be distracted like that and they play in the NFC North which has no other team that will even sniff the playoffs this season.
Robert (Sterling, Va): NY Giants - is it ALL on Eli? If so, how do you see them doing? And is there a chance Brandon Jacobs quiets his (many) critics/skeptics?
Jeremy Green: A lot of it is on Eli. He has to be much better with his mechanics and his reads. He has enough weapons on offense that he should be way ahead of where he is at. Not sure where the Jacobs skepticism comes from. Every time the guy plays. He plays well. I think he is going to have a solid season.
egami (iowa): You apparently missed the memo from desk of one Mr. John Kitna.
Jeremy Green: I saw it... I thought he meant they would win 10-games in the next two years. Maybe 5 this season and 5 next season. My bad.
Matthew (Summit NJ): Jeremy, I've asked this question in many ESPN chats and never received an answer. Assuming Tom Coughlin is fired, who do you think will coach the New Yok Giants next season? I know you won't let me down, Jeremy!
Jeremy Green: Rex Ryan.
Big Murf (Northern VA): Welcome back JG! 'Skins question : Do you see all of the high praises coming from players about the growth of Jason Campbell (our Savior JC) ? Think JC has what it takes to turn this team around? (remember the 'Skins gave up very few sacks and had the 4th best rushing in the league last year)
Jeremy Green: Hey Murf. I have had a chance to talk with some players on offense there and they are singing his praises, so I can't wait to find out. Based on what he showed last season, he showed flahes that he is the real deal and I would expect he would improve as he becomes more familiar with that extensive Al Sunders playbook. He is going to get them in the right direction but there are still too many missing pieces on defense.
Devin: Illinois: DO you think that the chiefs can make a playoff run with the Offseason pick-ups of Donnie Edwards, Dwayne Bowe, and Napolean Harris?
Jeremy Green: No. I don't think this is a playoff team if LJ shows up and plays and that is even a ? at this point. They have QB issues, O-line issues. I like the additons of Harris and Edwards and Bowe finally gives them the hope of a guy that can make a play outside, but I think the Chiefs are a team going in the opposite direction because they are not going to get consistent QB play.
Majeed: JG, I cursed out Mike for not emailing you back. Anyway, Fins better or worse with Green on board?
Jeremy Green: You should have cussed him out!! Fins are better with Green. I just think they are going to be so much more efficent on offense and there will be less mistakes. Green will take care of the ball. With Cameron now too, Ronnie Brown really becomes the focal point of the offense. I still hate that they cut McMichael but they will be better. I thought he could have been huge in this offense.
Mike (San Diego): JG, I can't believe I missed your email! What a bummer. Are the 'Fins better or worse with Cameron as the HC? Horrible college coach and he's been running Norv Turner's offense in SD. How is this guy a HC?
Jeremy Green: Fins are better with Cameron. Get me an address and I will shoot you and Majeed some Morton's certificates.
Chris (Broadview Heights, OH): You said the Browns don't have the QB to go 7-9 or 8-8. I agree that Frye/Anderson don't have that type of talent but could Brady Quinn surprise and come out firing as a rookie?
Jeremy Green: Based on what he has shown to this point in the OTA's and mini-camps he has a lot to learn still. He needs to improve his accuracy. He is also not going to be in camp on time and that will set him back. Quinn is not going to be ready and the Browns could hurt him by forcing him out there too early. As a Browns fan, you know a little something about that.
Joe (AZ via Chicago): GREENER - who gets your vote for player most likely to disappoint from this draft class (and Ginn isn't an option because nobody seems to think he'll be very good)???
Jeremy Green: First round? I would say Justin Harrell. Went way too high to Green Bay. Moved up because of his workout numbers and history shows those guys have a chance to flop.
Greg - Indy: You and Matt Williamson are the biggest Colts haters around. It is funny how last year in the playoffs you guys picked them to lose everygame and they won the superbowl. Maybe you should take a vacation for the whole year!!!!
Jeremy Green: I might... call ESPN and see if it can be paid vacation time though.
Tyrone (OR): I undertstand your point about Romo, but dude did have 19 TD's in 10 games and while he struggled slightly at the end, how much of that was Parcells being stuck in his ways?
Jeremy Green: Good point Tyrone and Parcells might have held him back a little. We know nothing about Jason Garrett as an OC either though so that is why I am slighlty skeptical. I agree the talent is there. He has a chance to be a superstar without question.
DD (MN): What team do you secretly pull for - everyone has a favorite! Common Jeremy!
Jeremy Green: Chicago Bears!!
justin (dayton, ohio): hey JG I always appreciate your insight! I want to know what you think about the bengals this season overall, but mostly the defense. are we improved enough on that side of the ball to be a contender this season?
Jeremy Green: I don't think they have done enough at the DT or LB position. That said, they have a top five offense and that can carry you through the regular season. I thinkthey are back to being a playoff team but unless the D plays over thier heads, they do not have a playoff ready defense.
dawg (texas): will the yankees win their division?
Jeremy Green: No. But I am going to their game on Saturday for my 36th birthday.
Kush (Nairobi, Kenya): Big Broncos fan here in Kenya...JG, Is DJ Williams a lock for the pro bowl this season?
Jeremy Green: No, not a lock, but I think he could have a huge year because Bates unlike Coyer will turn him lose and I have been waiting to see whay happens when that occurs.
Travis (richmond, VA): Hey...I will be at that game on Saturday too!!!...first time in Yankee Stadium...how has Cedric Benson looked so far in camp?
Jeremy Green: Sweet. The reviews have not been great. No matter how much the Bears want him to be Thomas Jones from a leadership stand point and work ethic stand point, it is not going to happen. Benson is aloof. He is going to have moments where he looks great and others where he is missing assignments. He better watch out for Garrett Wolfe too... now there is a guy that is getting some big time reviews.
D. Culpepper (?): Where will I be once the season starts?
Jeremy Green: Jacksonville.
Jeremy Green: OK guys. I am out of here. I will catch you back here on Friday though in the 1:00 PM EST time slot. Everyone have a great week. I'm out.
