No, you shouldn't. :D

Glenn is pretty quick so he may be better suited for the slot. I actually think he is good on the outside and does well on bigger receivers using his quickness to cut off their routes. He seems to struggle more with the smaller quicker receivers, which typically do play the slot.

Just like against Roy Williams last year in the Lions game?

He belongs as the #3 corner...in the slot.

Everyone has a bad game. He tends to play well against Plaxico Burress when he can use his quickness. Now jump balls are different and that is a weakness for him.

I don't think he should be in one single position and neither should Newman. If the #1 receiver for the other team is in the slot, then I like Newman in the slot. If the #3 guy is in the slot, then I like Glenn in the slot. It should not be set in stone that Newman is always the slot guy.

I saw CL mention Samuel, and I just wanted to share something I saw a few days back, on NFL Replay's Pats-Jets playoff game.

The Jets ran a route, Coles on the outside, Cotchery in the slot. Samuels was on Coles. Coles ran a streak, and Cotchery ran a deep out. Well, I guess Samuels knew what was coming through study, or coaching, or whatever. He saw the safety help over the top, kept his back turned to Pennington until Pennington committed - stopped, let Coles go without ever looking back, and made the INT on the throw to the sideline intended for Cotchery. It was a thing of beauty, the way he baited him.

Maybe it was just dumb luck. Maybe taking those chances burns him alot. But that was an amazing play, and if he keeps it up he's going to remain an amazing corner.
Newman could have been doing that, but Parcells held him back.

Just kidding -- I couldn't resist.

I'm going to rip your nose off.

I agree, though - Zimmer's (our defensive coordinator's ;) ) methods to playing corner do not translate to INTs. It's more about being technically sound and not baiting and not taking chances. Newman's made quite a career for himself at that so far - I'd like to see him do what Samuels did.

No, I really was 100% just yanking your chain. ;) I do remember that play, and I remember wishing we did stuff like that.

What I can't remember exactly was if Samuels saw Pennington turn to make the throw before he broke. What I'm getting at is Pennington's incredibly weak arm... His deep outs can be timed with a sundial. Some guys throw it so hard, you can try to jump routes and it doesn't matter. Pennington, it does. I wonder if they had it in their game plan to jump routes knowing that if they guessed right, chances were pretty good they'd get the pick.

But seriously -- I'm glad Zimmer is gone as a DB coach more than as a coordinator. And I'm really glad we got Stewart as DC instead of Bowles just so there's a new persective on things.

The real question's going to be if Newman jumps a route and guesses wrong, is he going to get raked for it? I think that's exactly what'll happen -- more INTs but more TD as well. But some fans will want both.

Cromartie is someone I will be keeping an eye on, I really wanted us to draft him last year. I liked the Carpenter pick, but I would rather have a young stud like Cromartie in the backfield than a back up ILb.

S.D. drafted the guys I was hoping for last year in both the first and second rounds, even though we picked ahead of them (before trade down).

I personally feel we would be much stronger with Cromartie and Mcneil than Carpenter and Fasano, LT and CB are much harder to find than ILB and TE IMO. Cromartie and Mcneil both have rare talent IMO.
