With a new head coach in Wade Phillips, a lot of jobs will be up for grabs. One of those jobs will be the running back position that has been manned by starter Julius Jones over the past few seasons. However, Jones has been pushed by backup Marion Barber III and Barber will get his opportunity in the preseason to win the starting job. Both backs bring a little something different to the table. Jones is a better outside runner, and Barber is a more physical runner between the tackles. Neither back is really a feature guy, but used properly, they form a very good 1-2 punch.

Didn't Jones have more success in the middle last year and Barber was the better back going to the outside?

If the Chiefs are #2 based solely on LJ, then why are the Rams so low. The gap between SJ and LJ is not that big.

I agree, I actually like Stephen Jackson better... I think he'll have a huge year.

You must've forget how good Chester Taylor was last year when the offense was basically him or nothing... They added AD so they're going to be a load to handle.

Taylor wasn't any better than Julius was last season. He got a few more carries and catches because he didn't have a decent backup, but he wasn't any more effective.

Julius Jones is the worse starting RB in the NFL, and the Cowboys should trade him right now for a bag of peanuts, or the #1 pick in next years draft before they lose him for nothing after this season.:

I love how some guys talk about how terrible he is, then say the cowboys should trade him.

I dont watch much chiefs football at all, but is larry johnson really that good? I know his stats are awesome, but I remember a couple of years ago I had priest holmes on my fantasy squad, he had three td's in the first half and derrick blaylock came in in the second half and scored 3 more. Is KC like denver where it doesnt matter who they plug in they do well or is larry johnson still the second best back even if he plays in cleveland?

That KC system that you speak of no longer exists. Al Saunders is now in Washington, and Herm Edwards is now coaching the Chiefs.

But to answer your question, Larry Johnson is that good, they just ran him into the ground last year.

Minnesota passed a lot more than they ran (540 to 442). The Vikings were playing behind a lot last year, so many of their opponents were looking to stop the pass more than the run.

No anti-Cowboy bias in this article. I happen to think we're pretty ridiculously overrated.

I second that. While I dont think we are terrible at RB, I certainly wouldnt put us in the top third of the league. Not yet anyway.

Vikings saw their share of 8 man fronts early on in games because their passing game wasn't worth respecting as much as Taylor was.

We have the opposite situation. Our passing game is so respected that it should open things up for our running game.

And yet we didn't, which means we aren't the tenth best rushing attack. Maybe it was Julius's fault. Maybe it was Parcells's fault. Maybe it was the O-line's fault. It doesnt matter now, just needs to be better.

Taylor averaged 3.19 yards per carry in the fourth quarter. He averaged 2.38 in the fourth quarter with the score not close (more than a seven-point lead for either team). How many eight-man fronts did he see then?
