Matt Williamson: MW here. Did anything of note happen over the weekend? Let's roll.

Greg (Denver, CO): Since Oakland went with DMac and did nothing to address their need to stop the run, do you think a stopgap player like Grady Jackson could help in that area for a year or two?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: That wouldn't be a terrible option. This might ignite some of you, but that pick of McF was the worst of the entire draft. Needless to say, I am not a huge believer in McF, but trust me, I do see the allure. Still, Oak is NOT-I repeat, NOT-one player away and cannot take a luxory selection like this when the best player in the draft (Dorsey) is still sitting there and he fills a massive need. That is why they are the Raiders. Used a high pick on Bush last year. Signed Fargas this offseason. Signed Rhodes the free agency period before. All this at a position where it is easiest to find players. Bad.

Evan (NJ): Big Ben got nice weapons w/ those first 2 picks. PGH's offense is pretty lethal now!! What did you think of their day 2 picks?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I did like Davis a lot for PGH. Their type of guy. Conversion, so of course there is risk, but good player/fit. The rest were okay, but not great. I like Humpal and think he will contribute for a while. Dixon has to be a slash guy. Hills is real hit or miss.

Pat (IL): Matt, while the Bears did address some needs (OT, WR) how is it possible to think they had a somewhat successful draft when they didn't address their biggest need, QB?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I am with ya. Not a huge Williams fan here, but that did make sense. I do like Forte, but would have grabbed a QB instead. Then they take a major character risk on Harrison. The Bennett pick was smart though.

KJ New York: Why didn't the cowboys draft a WR??

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: That did surprise me a little. I know they are higher on their lesser known WRs than many realize. Glenn is coming back. Still, seemed strange to me.

PT (Franklin, NC): You consider Bush, a one time potential top 10 pick, who the Raiders got in the 4th round, a high pick? Kiffin justified the McF pick by saying that Dorsey plays the same position as Tommy Kelly who the Raiders just paid big money to, not to mention they traded a 5th round pick to get Gerard Warren. They needed a playmaker and I believe they got one.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I will give you that an early 4th rounder is not a high pick, but it was just ANOTHER resource used at the position. Kelly is being projected as a 3 technique, but would be a good strongside DE. Kelly and Dorsey in the middle on throwing downs. Rotate and move players around. Speed isn't enough at this level-ask Reggie Bush. G Warren isn't the answer either Bro.

Dave(Charlotte, NC): Who had the best draft in the NFC East?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I give the Skins credit for really attacking a need and getting three quality big physical pass catchers for Campbell. Good to see them helping out their QB.

Matt, mpls: Are you surprised that the Vikes traded up to take a S when they could have stayed put and taken Fred Davis or Sweed?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: When they traded up, I was assuming it was for a QB-which would have been smart. Still, getting that quality of a safety at that spot is hard to argue with. This kid is loaded with playmaking ability.

Will Lincoln NE: How can the chiefs address their need at Quarterback? Is there a need for a new play director in KC?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: QB will be next year, as KC will surely pick at the top of the draft again. Give Croyle and the coaching staff one more year to prove themselves, but yes, the clock is ticking in KC.

Ryan (San Diego): How much do you think the Chargers secondary has improved with the additions of Cason/full time Weddle for the slow and out of position McCree and Florence?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Very much. Exceptional and amongst the very best secondaries in the league now. Big Cason fan here.

Mikey (Philly): Can you make sense of the Eagles trading out of the first round 2 years in a row when they need immediate help in a bunch of positions - and not trading Lito? I'm confused.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: They are well known as a team that asks too much for their players. Keeping Lito isn't such a terrible thing though. However, I can't figure out if Philly is rebuilding and getting young for Kolb or trying to make a run at the title. I guess the answer is both, but that is a really tough line to walk. However, they did get an awful lot for that first round pick and now they don't have to pay out huge #1 pick money.

Mike (Outer Banks, NC): What are your feelings on Va. Tech ILB Vince Hall and do you think he'll be signed in the near future?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Size and speed are the obvious negatives on Hall, but he plays faster and a little bigger than he is listed. Makes plays. Shocked he wasn't picked for sure, but that position isn't in great demand. I bet he makes a team somewhere.

Paul (WI): Do you think GB had a decent draft? They addressed some needs and got some extra depth at others, like WR.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Mixed feelings on GBay's draft. Love the Brohm pick. I really like Jordy Nelson, but how does he fit in there? Lee will help for sure, but the rest of the draft didn't excite me much at all.

PT (Franklin, NC): You honestly do not believe Mcfadden is a better between the tackles runner than Reggie Bush?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: He is, but not by leaps and bounds. Gets knocked off his pegs too easily. Weak lower body. I see a lot of 1, 0, -1 yard runs from McF at this level-esp behind that line. He will break a few and will make your jaw drop once in a while, but Dorsey would help so much more down after down. They will get next to nothing in trade for whichever RB they ship out. Just isn't good business.

Brad (Plano, TX): Do you think that the Cowboys should have taken Rashard Mendenhall over Felix Jones with their first pick?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Yes, just because I think Mendenhall is a far superior overall RB. But, I see what they saw here in that they wanted a big play complement to Barber. However, Mendenhall might actually bring more of that when it is all said and done. He can break the long one.

Brian (Sac, CA): 7 USC Trojans in the first two rounds, would you call that dominating?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Pretty darn impressive. They will have plenty next year as well. As usual. Getting to be rather "The U-Like".

Joe (Boston): Most of the media reports in Jacksonville seem to be smitten with the Jags moves and their draft. What do you think and do you think Harvey can be a top end pass rusher? I know that he had a down senior year but I also know he was the only threat on the Gator's defensive line.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I liked the Harvey pick, although it was expensive, but I loved the Groves pick. Groves won't see the field much, but he is lightning off the edge. Go get em! Groves might end up with more sacks than Harvey next year. I like when teams just attack a major weakness though and I give Jax credit for doing exactly that.

Henry (Columbus): Why did the Bengals use character as a reason for picking Simpson over better talents in the second (Sweed, Doucett, Kelly, Manningham, Jackson), but then they pick three high character risk guys later (the two DT's and Collins)? Did they not learn their lesson?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Tigers don't change their stripes. Pun intended.

Tim(Bmore): My initial reaction to Joe Flacco was somewhat indifferent. Every analyst is talking about his arm and pocket presense. How do you think he projects to the NFL?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: It won't be easy. Going from such a small school to the NFL is tough on anyone. He has a ton of work to do with his footwork and ability to play behind center. I love the arm-who doesn't?-but that might be the most overrated aspect of QB play. I know Flacco is a better athlete than advertised, but can he feel the rush and then get out of the way of 260lbs. DEs with crazy athletic ability? The good part is that Balt should have a D, running game and respectable OL. If he were in ATL for example, he would have a TOUGH time.

Daniel (St. Louis, MO): what do you think about the pats draft? reached on a couple of players like wheatley and crabble?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: They seem to love tiny, but fast and aggressive, CBs anymore. What is the story behind that? Mayo could be DROY in that scheme and that pick allows Vrabel and/or Thomas to play OLB, where I think they are better. The O'Connell pick was bold. Can't say I love the draft, but that organization gets the benefit of the doubt. They have earned it.

Mike (Boca Raton): some (but few) analsysts thought Mendenhall was better than Mcfadden. where do you stand on this comparison?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I like big RBs and think that Stewart and Mendenhall are both better all around prospects than McF. I know I am in the minority here, but I see McF as a specialty player. He could really excel in that role and sure, he is very talented, but I worry about the crowd that he runs with and have some questions about his ability to consistently gain the tough yards. Stewart and Mendenhall are serious RBs.

Jack (NY): what do you think about day 2 for the chiefs. Why didn't they draft more offensive linemen. What free agents are left to grab.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Shocked that they didn't add one or two more OLinemen, esp considering all their picks. Still, all their picks in the top 4 rounds presented excellent value. Will Franklin is going to be a good player down the line.

Dan (Arlington, VA): How do you feel philly did with D. Jackson in the 2nd? Great value for a guy who just last week was supposed to be mid first?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Especially as a returner. Philly's return game was a nightmare last year and they landed the best returner in the draft, plus someone who can certainly develop into a qualtiy WR.

Matt (Miami): How do you think the 'fins did with the draft? They nabbed a huge amount of OL/DL players, but did nothing in the secondary?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Very typical, as has been their entire off season. Parcells and company obviously realizes that Miami is not going to win the whole thing next year, but they have certainly built a foundation. There is great promise in Miami and one more strong off season could put them on the map. Impressive from start to finish, including free agency. Not a lot of risk, but solid tough players who want to win.

Anthony (College Park, MD): How surprised were you to see Erin Henderson not get drafted? He was the #3 rated outside linebacker by some people.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: When projecting these players, it is very tough for any of us to know the full extent of a player's injuries. I think he was a red flag from an injury standpoint, because his film is good enough to get drafted from.

Aron (Des Moines, IA): I have read mixed opinions on the Rams second pick Avery, what do you think?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: He certainly would not have been my top WR overall, but STL plays in a dome and that speed is hard to argue with. Still, seemed too early. Burton was a nice find at the position though.

Bruce CT: Which quarterback if any, besides matt ryan do you see possibly seeing game time next season?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: There will surely be a few. Ryan is going to have a brutal time behind that awful OL, but I have to think he gets in the game. Henne could certainly make an appearence late. As could Booty. It would be best for Flacco to sit, but if the Ravens are eliminated from contention, it could be wise to get him some snaps.

Andy (Buffalo): First ESPN never shows Buffalo any love, so what did you think of their draft

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I was happy that they didn't reach for WR in round one, which many had speculated. I also like McKelvin a lot, but I question how well he fits that system. Is he strong and physical enough? Not sure on that. I love the Hardy pick. He is exactly what they need. TD maker. Not impressed with the rest of their draft at all.

Doug (NY): What'd you think of the Giants' draft? Although, Thomas in the 2nd may have seemed like a bit of a reach, I've read that he fits Spags system very nicely....true?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I do think that is true and I think there is insurance with Thomas, as he could be a FS down the line if he doesn't work out at CB. Manningham was certainly worth the risk for them. If he gives them a hard time, they can afford to send him on his way. Woodson might be a fine #2 QB in time.

Thom (Durham, NC): Any thoughts on the Panther's draft? Trading the farm to get back up to get Otah aside, how about their second day picks? How does Dan O'Connor fit in?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Not exactly sure where Connor will fit, but I bet he gets on the field early and is the type of guy who is very tough to get off the field once he arrives. As I said before, I like Stewart a lot. Otah also fits, but I wonder where they will play him. RT and move Gross to LT? Force Otah into the LT spot and leave Gross at RT, where he fits best? Tough call. But, this much was obvious, Fox and company attacked this draft with the intensions of winning now. Why draft a QB high for the next coach to have?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: By the way, if Delhomme stays healthy, Carolina's O could be very good this year. Not okay, but very good.

Randy (Tucson, AZ): What are your thoughts on the Broncos draft? Personally I liked it. Lots of needs filled with few reaches and good character players. Ryan Torian might end up the most productive RB from this draft.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Good call on Torrain. Excellent fit. Knowing Shanny, Torrain will surely get playing time. I liked the Clady pick a lot-felt like they lucked into that one. True LT athlete. Royal might have been a little early, but his return ability adds to his value. A few other solid players without character issues, which is a refreshing change for Denver.

J.B. (Dunmore, PA): With the Vikes QB situation, did you like the Booty Call in the 5th round?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Very much. Not a huge Booty fan here either, but I just have zero confidence in Jackson. When they traded up for Johnson, taking Brohm or Henne would have been wise.

Dan (Buffalo, NY): MW, As a Browns fan I must say that the Steelers offense makes me nervous. But are they going to have enough protection on the O-Line to give the backs holes and Big Ben the time needed hit those open receivers?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Good question and I am higher on the Steelers' OL this year than many who are very worried. With all their weapons, I think blitzing PGH has become extremely dangerous. Their OL doesn't have any stars, but they will be better this year overall.

Chris,NY: Thoughts on the jets draft? Should have taken a QB/Wr earlier?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Not a believer in Gholston and I think they would have much rather had McF or Ryan. I understand that Keller pick because their QBs are not adept at throwing deep downfield, but WR is still a big hole. Not sold on their other CBs outside of Revis either and their DEs are not good enough.

Charlie (Blacksburg, VA): How bad off are the Bengals after that terrible draft and the ocho cinquo situation?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: The 85 mess needs cleaned up NOW. Rivers is solid, but I bet they would have much rather had Ellis or Harvey-and Jax knew it.

Mark (Bangor, PA): I realize the Browns draft really took place prior to the actual draft, but do you think they made good moves with Beau Mills and the TE and brought in?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Bell and Rubin fit the 3-4 very well. Bell is a downhill pounder who will do the dirty work inside. I thought the Rucker pick was curious, but maybe there is more to the medical situation at that position. They did well, but when they moved up, I didn't see what they gave up. Not a huge believer in continually mortgaging next year's picks and Clev is making a disturbing habit of doing exactly that.

IL: What do you think about tom zbikowski going to the ravens? Will he start?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I highly doubt it. Zib is an excellent ST player who will be a core player in that regard. Remember Harbaugh's pedigry, he made his bones as a special teams coach and their off season was really reflected that.

Matt, mpls: Is it just me, or are teams drafting WR's who can return as well over guys who are actually good WR's? Why did Sweed fall?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: That is surprising and many teams put a premium on returners this year. Hester effect? Give me Thomas and Sweed.

Aaron (Georgia): Matt Ryan will be a good quarterbackbut will he start?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Would be very worried about that. Give the guy a chance to succeed. I like ATL's WRs and RBs and now they have their QB, but that is building backwards. That OL could be the worst in the league.

B.Wash.(Houston,Tx.): Do you think the Texans made the right move getting the Off.Lineman they wanted or do you think they will regret not taking a possible franchise RB. I feel they needed an OT and not having a second round pick it wasnt bad. We did get a RB in the 3rd round that has what we have never had, break away speed.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I didn't think RB was a priority for Hous, especially with Gibbs as the new OL coach. He obviously liked D Brown a lot, but that was awfully early to pull the trigger on him. Couldn't have traded down?

Kevin (Tampa): The Bucs selected Aqib Talib and addressed one of there needs at CB, but with his off the field issues, is he going to put those behind him under Monte Kiffen or possibly become the next Pacman Jones?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I have no idea how Talib will behave off the field, but that was surely a major red flag. Gruden has overlooked character flaws in the past though.

Matt (Allen Park, MI): Any thoughts on the Lions draft?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Cherilus was a major reach, but I loved the Smith pick and I predict that he will grab ahold of that RB job in a hurray. All you FF players, take Kevin Smith this year. Dizon is a very good football player who makes a ton of plays, but I wonder if they can protect him well enough for him to thrive as their MLB.

Ryan, (Indiana): What do you think of the mike hart pick by indy?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: The problems with Hart are that he is smaller, slower, has a lot of tread off his tires and doesn't help out at all on special teams. But...he is tough, well respected and could surprise in that system which suits him well.

Chuck. Garland,TX: How do you think Harry Douglas will pan out for the falcons?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Good slot option who won't be called upon to do a ton this year. Should grow well with their young WRs and now franchise QB. I liked that pick.

Joe (Massachusetts): What do you think of Shawn Crable in the Pats lineup?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I am not a believer. Crable needed to go to a 3-4 as an OLB, but I worry how well he can hold up at the point and with his long linear build, he could have a hard time.

Alex (New York): Wouldn't Ocho Cinco be a great fit for the Jets? They need a big time receiver, they have the complimentary receivers in Cotchery and Coles, and Johnson gets to take his show on Broadway.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: On the field, 85 fits in nicely everywhere. Superstar. Sure, the Jets could be much better on O if they added him, but that ship might have sailed.

MIke(Dallas): Do the Cowboys have the best secondary in the league?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: They very well could. Having a tough time coming up with a better overall group assuming Pac Man is reinstated. He might even be the best player of the entire group.

Alex (Leeds, UK): How is the jared allen trade looking after draft weekend?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Well, he wanted out of KC and the Cheifs were not going anywhere in the next season, so moving him for picks made sense. Great get for the Vikes. Will thrive up there and should give those LTs in that NFC North much more than they can handle.

Nick (Milwaukee): Any chance Shockey still gets traded? A #2 next year?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Maybe, but NYG is a contender. Why weaken yourself for 2008 while your winning window is open? Maybe trade him for a player.

Jim: Ocean Springs: Since you won't answer a Saints draft question, thank you for addressing the umptenth Cowboys and 85 ones?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: I think I answered one or two of each. Settle down. No Soup For You.

Lee (MN): Given that both cost a #1 and 2 #3s, which DE would you rather have: Allen or Harvey?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Allen-by far. The guy is already an elite DE. But, who would you rather trade Allen to? Obviously Minny since they had the higher draft pick.

Chris (WA): How did you think my Seahawks did? Love the Schmitt pick!

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Schmidt is perfect for what they do. Great pick. You can't go too wrong when you pick DL as a tie breaker, but adding a pass catcher with that pick seemed like the better idea at the time. Carlson is okay, not great. I don't think that he was worth trading up for though.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson: Okay everyone, I am out. It was fun. We can do it again later this week. Go find JG now to keep this rolling.

-----------------------------------------

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Hello! Sorry I'm late!

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: What an exciting 2008 draft! Fastest draft ever! No WRs in the first round! I thought you had to score points to win!?

Distrubed Falcons fan (GA): Why did the Falcons waste their 1st pick on Matt Ryan Leaf? Dorsey was right there for the taking and they passed on him yet wasted a trade to get Baker? It makes no sense to me at all. Can you tell me what they're trying to do.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Ouch! I don't agree with it either. I'm not sold on Matt Ryan being a franchise QB. The gap between Ryan and Flacco and Henne and Brohm is minimal. They needed a guy to make as the face of the organization to clean up the Vick situation. But I think even the front office would tell you that Dorsey and Henne or Dorsey and Brohm would have been a better combo than Ryan and Baker.

Kyle (Maryland): Hi Jeremy I was surprised when the Cowboys passes on Mendenhall to take Jones. Was this a good move? Or was it because Jerry wanted a Razorback?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I'm not surprised by that. It's not so much as him wanting a Razordback as wanting somebody to complement Barber. When they take Jones they know they are not getting the future guy at that position. They understand what his role will be.

Matt (Wisconsin): I know Ted Thompson is a best player available GM, but do u think the Packers have done enough to address the defense?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I would have liked to seen them to more on defense, getting a top flight CB or S. This is a team that is built on the WCO and Nelson should develop into a nice receiver. They need competition at the QB position so I think Brohm was also a good pick.

ROBIN, KANSAS: Does dallas have the best secondary in the league? (the answer is yes- i just wanted to hear you say it)

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: No question about it. There is no denying that. I think Jerry Jones was smart to take Jenkins. Pacman is still a ? If it works out great. But if not, they are still covered. If it does work out with Pacman, they can move Henry to safety and Williams to LB. If Jenkins works out, that scenario can play out and help the whole defense.

Dan (Columbus): Why is everyone rating the Lions draft low? They filled a lot of holes, got Kevin Smith, and Cherilus WILL be much better than Otah.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think it gets rated low because they traded back and passed on who many feel is the second best back in Mendenhall. I was more down on them after Day 1 than today. I'm more positive because of Kevin Smith who ran for over 2,000 yards last season. He was a highly productive back. Their draft looks a whole lot better today.

Geoff (Abilene): Jeremy, talking WR's I was shocked that Eddie Royal came off the board with Denver in the second. Wasn't a need anymore with Jackson signed, but do you see any reason why he would be selected with DeSean Jackson still available?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I'll say this. Royal is going to be a third receiver. He has great speed. Personally, I thought there were better receivers available. Marshall has injuries, Stokley is a third .. even with Royal I think they still have WR needs. I don't see anybody on that roster who is really legitimate other than Marshall.

Jason Campbell (DC): Hey Jeremy, two questions for you. 1)How many TD's will I throw next year? and 2)Why do bad things happen to good people?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: TD-wise, I don't know. I know no QB was happier to wake up this morning than Campbell. He has 2 of the best 3 WRs in the draft and probably the best TE. It's a new offensive system that everyone can learn together at the same time. This is a phenomenal draft for Washington. They are going to be explosive next year.

Zac (Pittsburgh, PA): Which QB drafted in the later rounds has the best chance at success? I wished my Chiefs would have taken one late, Johnson, Brennan, or Woodson, but they didn't. What gives?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Josh Johnson in Tampa I think has the best chance. He is a great athlete in a place without a great QB situation. Gruden knows how to develop QBs. Johnson is in the perfect situation.

Steve, Albany NY: I think the Dolphins first draft under the Parcels regime was a monster success...what do you think JG??

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Huge. It was huge. The best tackle in the draft. Got Henner later than they thought they could get him. What hasn't been included is that they got Ayodele and Fasano! I thought it was outstanding. They still have to get things settled at the QB position though.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Huge. It was huge. The best tackle in the draft. Got Henner later than they thought they could get him. What hasn't been included is that they got Ayodele and Fasano! I thought it was outstanding. They still have to get things settled at the QB position though.

Bobby (Toledo, OH): Draft Order 2009. 1. Bears 2. Falcons 3. Raiders?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think the first pick will go to the Falcons. Going in I would have said Chiefs but now I'm saying Falcons. I'd put the Lions at 2. They are much worse without Martz. They think they can run the ball now. Say what you want but they scored points under Martz. I'll put the Chiefs at No. 3. But I do love their future. They got 5 or 6 starters in this draft.

Andrew (Baltimore): What do you think of Joe Flacco? Can he really develop into a big time QB in the NFL?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think he can. In terms of physical tools and talent, he's about the same as Carson Palmer. But the game will be faster for him than any of the other QBs drafted. Cam Cameron can coach an offense. He is a great coordinator and can coach QBs. Flacco is in a great situation for him to really develop.

Joe (Huntsville,AL): Dorsey=Warren Sapp?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: They hope! I don't know. He hasn't played an NFL snap yet! He COULD be Sapp. He has great quickness and is very explosive. He appears to be Sapp but we can't put that label on him yet before he has played a down.

Casey (Phoenix, AZ): Jeremy, Do you still make your hand gestures while in an online chat room?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Yes. Here comes one right now ...

J.B. (Dunmore, PA): Did the Vikes draft Booty to eventually take over the starting QB role or are they just looking to push Jackson?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think the Vikings took the best available player. When you look at teams that took QBs .. GB, Minnesota, Tampa, etc. .. these guys aren't established. They are creating competition. Those teams without proven QBs, it's a good pick to create competition.

Brady (Colorado): I was very impressed with the Chiefs draft. Dopes this make up for all the other Carl Peterson screw ups?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Every team has had screw ups. What they made up for was the Chiefs fans wanting to commit suicide after losing Allen. They lost a great player. You look at this draft, to come away with Dorsey at No. 5 was outstanding. They had the best draft of any team.

bob, boston: Why did the Pats take Jerod Mayo over other, more talented players, if you have a top 10 pick aren't you supposed to draft talent over need

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I wasn't surprised with this pick. Mayo was one of the fastest rising players in the draft. I think Mayo will be better than Rivers when it is all said and done. He moved inside and didn't skip a beat. He is versatile and very intelligent. He will get on the field right away. He is an everydown LB that I think will turn into a Pro Bowler. Now the rest of the Pats draft? Horrible! But I like the Mayo pick.

Christoper(VA): Knowing what you do of the two QB's do you think O'Connell has more chance of being the #2 QB in NE over Cassell?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think O'Connel was taken for one reason .. they think Cassell can be the guy but he gotten comfortable with not playing. It is possible 2010 will be an uncapped year. If that happens, Brady would be an unrestricted free agent. If you are NE, you better start developing a plan. If it's uncapped and Brady isn't extremely loyal, he won't be a Patriot.

Steve Hoboken: How would you grade the Colts draft?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: The Colts did the best they could being limited with picks. But I"m surprised they didn't take a QB. Sorgi was completely exposed in that last regular season game. If I'm the Colts I'm praying that Manning never gets injured. They know their backup QB can't get it done.

Willie (Portland, OR): Jeremy, are you surprised that Pittsburgh drafted Dixon? Why would they sign another QB just after they extended Big Ben's contract?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I'm not surprised. They will probably try to turn him into a QB but if it doesn't work, they could switch that up. Think Randle El.

Nickolas (Syracuse, NY): Which team has had the overall best offseason so far? Saints? Browns?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Good question. I'm going to say the Vikings. In saying that, Allen was the No. 17 pick in the draft. They get a guy who can pressure the QB and improves the back end. I like the safety Johnson. Berrian gives them a No. 1 receiver. They are the team that got closest to the team they are chasing than anyone else.

Colin (Lafayette, IN): Which of the players drafted have a chance to make it to the Pro-Bowl in their rookie season?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Chris Long based on sack numbers. Keith Rivers. Jared Mayo. Based on tackles. Look how many rookie LBs have played in their rookie year. Rivers and Mayo might rack up the tackles and that is what most people look at in terms of Pro Bowl.

Jeff (NYC): Super Mario Manningham - biggest risk/reward pick of the draft? I think he could potentially become a Chad Johnson type receiver...or he could be the next Sinorice Moss...

Jeremy Green: No. Not even close. The biggest risk/reward was Vernon Gholston. If you go watch him on tape, he disappears at time. He is a clear boom or bust player. When he wants to play he is great, but when he doesn't he is awful. I don't see Mario as a real risk at all based on where they took him.

Amanzio, Raleigh NC: Any ideas on why the Panthers did not pull the trigger on a QB? I would have liked to see them grab Woodson since he was still available late.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: GM Marty Hurney and head coach John Fox are both on the hot seat. If any team drafted for now and realized they were in a situation where they had to get it done TODAY, it's the Panthers. If it doesn't work, the guy who comes in has a disaster. They selfishly drafted for today instead of the future.

Colt Brennan (DC): Can I develop into a top NFL QB?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: No. I don't think so. I get the production, but it is such a leap when you consider the system he played in. He was so far behind at the Sr. Bowl understanding the pro system. For an NFL system, he is a long ways away.

Fil: What kind of numebrs do you see Mcfadden have in Oakland

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think he is going to rush for 1,300 yards and catch the ball well. A lot of it will be determined on the outcome of the games. If they continue to get blown out it will hurt his production. But he is a great asset for Russell. He can be relied on by Russell to make a play when he needs to.

Mason (WI): Who will be starting at the end of the season for the packers at QB?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: Aaron Rodgers. He will be the starting QB in Green Bay. This will create great competition. They have a Top 10 defense, a good OL and a great run game. They are not going to be 13-3 but this is still a 10-6 team at worse I think.

Dan (San Jose): I don't know what to make of the 49ers draft. It seems they drafted very logically, I guess...what do you think?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think they did, too. They had quite a few needs. They got better on OL and DL. The one thing I looked at was they didn't get any explosive playmakers for Martz. However, when you go back and look, Martz makes below average receivers good. The system I think makes players better than they might actually be.

CC (Atlanta): People get so caught up grading the draft today. Uh, Robert Gallery was a can't miss, bookend tackle the Monday after the draft. I crack up when everyone says KC cleaned up. Not necessarily the case!!

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: CC, I agree totally. We are here because we get paid to analyze this stuff! We get paid to make predictions. I'm just going based on what we've seen in college but even the teams dont' know what these guys are going to do. You don't know if it was a good draft until 2-3 yeards down the road.

Steve (Indianapolis, In: Why didn't the Bears get a QB to replace horribly Rex Grossman?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I think the big reason is if you look at the coaching staff, they want to win right now. Today. They aren't thinking about developing for the future. If they don't win soon, the future will be somebody else's problem.

Ed (J'ville): JG, how'd your dad feel about this weekend's Coors Light commercial? I thought it was pretty darn good.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: He loved it. His wife sent me a picture from her camera phone. They were at Disney. It said ''Did you ever think you would see your dad at Disney the day before the draft?'' He was just hanging out doing his own thing. It's the first draft he hasn't been involved with in some way.

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: It was a fast draft .. an interesting draft .. I know some fans are happy and some aren't .. but we won't know for a couple years how it really played out. Thanks for all the great questions!

A little too soon to be saying we have the best secondary in the league. Lots of question marks.

A veteran CB that gets hurt
A young veteran CB that finds trouble where ever he goes
A rookie CB that we hope is productive
A SS that gets burnt by quality TEs and FBs.

So I take it you are a glass half empty kind of a guy?

But I understand your point, at least it is more promising now then last year.

I liked the faster draft, but would have liked it to have started at noon on Saturday, with day 1 going three rounds.

It's kind of hard to stop the momentum after two rounds only to come back tomorrow.

wow! these guys lost all credibility with comments like "Dallas has the best secondary in the league" and "they chose felix cause he is the future at the position"

Not to split hairs with you but actually I see it as it is. I am not a half full or half empty person. It is possible to just view the level as what it is, in the middle.

Anyway, I really like the possibility of or secondary and believe they can be the best in the league. We will find out more as the season unfolds.

No question about it.

:banghead: that doesnt make any sense...what about hamlin? move him to strong so that 3 guys are switching positions?

Kyle (Maryland): Hi Jeremy I was surprised when the Cowboys passes on Mendenhall to take Jones. Was this a good move? Or was it because Jerry wanted a Razorback?

sn2.gif
Jeremy Green: I'm not surprised by that. It's not so much as him wanting a Razordback as wanting somebody to complement Barber. When they take Jones they know they are not getting the future guy at that position. They understand what his role will be.

By the way...what is a Razordback?? :D

I thought the quote read that he is NOT the future? I may have read that wrong. Actually, I think he is going to be a heck of a good player.

..and we need a pass rush that resembles the Jints and not rely on our overpaid DB backfield to perform wonders on it's own.

Phillips needs to really crank up the pressure on the QBs this season or I don't see this abundance of pass defenders doing much more than last year..which wasn't just wasn't enough.

We have to have more pressure than Ware and Ellis. Offenses are going to adjust and squeeze that off this season and force the rest of the DL to step up to make a difference.

There is alot of pressure on Spears and the NTs to get a push in the center of the line this year and get the QB on the ground and not just rely on the outside LBers to do it.

Without it, I'm not sure we will see much change. These guys on the DL need to start breathing fire this season and not be so passive.

I believe Pacman Jones will be reinstated.

Think about this line up for a second...

1. Newman
2. Jenkins
3. Jones
4. Henry
5. Scandrick

Saturday should be three rounds starting 2 hours earlier and Sunday should start two hours later.

Waiting for the draft to start Saturday was painful. By the time I finished analyzing, reading threads, chatting and shut everything down, I had to set my darn alarm to get up in time Sunday.

I'll take the flip side.

We have someone to cover for Henry now.
Pacman has turned his life around.
Jenkins is a NFL ready classic cover CB.
Roy will see less playing time than ever this year.

It may still be April, but I'll say our secondary is top 3 at worst.

I'm glad you are being optimistic :) Based on what I saw last year and the recent changes, I'm not ready to claim they are top anything. We have lots of time until the season starts and I'm very hopeful they will produce at a high level.

I'm not a naysayer nor a cheerleader in regards to the secondary. Having said that, I am a believer in Newman and Hamlin and understand what Henry brings to the team. It is unfortunate he tends to get banged up and misses playing time.
