Sean Lee felt like 'pansy' missing practice

SAN ANTONIO -- Sean Lee didn’t need Bradie James barking about getting the veteran inside linebackers some rest to want to return to practice.

“It’s tough not to feel like a pansy being on the sideline when you’re hurt,” Lee said. “It’s tough to really see your team grind through two-a-days and you not be part of it.”

Lee missed 13 practices while dealing with a strained quadriceps. But he didn’t look like he missed a beat during Wednesday afternoon’s practice.

The second-round pick had a pair of would-be sacks during team drills. He also sniffed out a screen, fought through traffic and got to Felix Jones behind the line of scrimmage.

Head coach/defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and linebackers coach Reggie Herring had said they weren’t too concerned about Lee missing practices because they were confident that he had a strong mental grasp of the defensive scheme.

“I think I have the basis of it,” said Lee, whose status for Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game hasn’t been determined yet. “It’s the little wrinkles I’ve got to get out. You can learn as much as you want on paper, but you have to actually get out and rep it with your body, see it full speed, play it, and that’s how you get better.”

Love this guy.

He'll be ready to start by Week 8. Which will be good, because I'm sure Keith Brooking will appreciate the limited work while still playing for a contender.

Morning Cap'n...

I don't know here. He well could function by the week eight point, but he's a second rounder and I don't think the push to get his value out there will overcome Wade's hesistancy to go away from the strength of a still functional veteran and the experience of Keith Brooking this all on his line season.

Morning. I just think we could really beenfit from it on defense. He can keep Brooking fresh throughout the season, which we know is important with him being another year older.

This. What could make it even better is if our defense can make stops on 3rd down, and get off the field.

Alright, I've got your back on issue...:)

But, but, but...juck knows his family. How dare he prove juck wrong.

I fully expect to see Lee subbing and coming in on nickel package but I think Brooking will continue to be the starting LB 1 he has the experiance and 2 he is looked at as the emotional leader. Lee day of taking over will come but I don't see him taking Brooking job just yet.

Keith Brooking is still a very good starting ILB in this league. The way he played last year, you keep a guy like that on the field.

He's back and stripped the ball from Barber this morning. I read it on Twitter from one of the ESPN guys!

Doubt that.

However he will be probably splitting snaps 50/50 with Brooking/Bradie in the overall defense.

What does that even mean? I love your cryptic response. Be more specific.

Does that mean he will be injured for the season before week 8? Or does that mean that maybe he misses a game due to whatever before week 8?

Players miss games, so if he didnt play 16 games this season, no big deal. But I assume you're crystal ball is saying that he wont play at all past game 6 (week 7)?

P.S. Its obvious that you are somewhat tongue and cheek about this matter. You like the attention that this "stance" of yours gets you and I'm sure you don't mind being wrong. But at least be more specific when you make your outlandish "bold" predictions. That way you can really give us the "I told you so" if you are right or receive the "idiot award" for attention grabbing if you are wrong.

I knew Sean would be back. But man, I didn't think he would come in after his injury and start stealing headlines this early. The kid is special. He's getting some playing time this year, no doubt.

I'd have to say that our 1st two picks for 2010 have got to be arguably the most talented we've seen in years. It's usually hit or miss. No more of the Dwayne Goodrich's, Tony Dixon's, and Quincy Carter's of the draft.

We're really building something here in Dallas.
