ESPN: Stadium saves Jerry from embarrassment?

If people would stop buying tickets to Jerry World, his tune would change dramatically.

There's the #1 problem. Why change anything if your stadium is full every sunday? It's like making a bad movie and people still show up and pay to watch garbage. At this point, he is just selling the past.

Jerry still wants to win...and I think his desire to win is as much as it ever was. But there is a condition attached. He wants to win, but he wants to win as GM (without a Jimmy Johnson type picking players).
He wants to win doing it his way. That is first and foremost.

I know he wants to win, and I absolutely understand that his ego is getting in the way. I can't even say I blame him - there is a piece of me that says if I had made a billion dollars on my own, bought a team, that I wouldn't be very involved.

But there is a piece of me that is starting to think that he enjoys the profits more. He will never hold himself accountable because he knows his brand sells no matter what.

He really, really likes that stadium. Likes it so much that the only time he gave up any power and hired a quality HC in the last 20 years was when he brought in Parcells. And he later admitted he did that just to get support for the new stadium.

Now that he has his castle, we can forget about him ever giving up any power again or hiring a real HC. He loves the power, and that stadium, obviously more than he likes winning.

I'm not sure that I would make a difference. That is why he is recruiting college games and other venues to fill the seats. Empty seats might influence him from a pride standpoint, but money from other activities is just as good as money from Cowboys' sales.

I think if we would get a better strength coaching staff to keep our players on the field, and follow Rick Gosselin's advice for the draft, we could improve. And it is possible that Jerry could allow the coaches (not the players) to run the team, but it is unlikely. He could learn to be a better GM, but I'm not sure he will...

The thing is, as to his question, yes I would be embarrassed. That stadium is over the top. It's all show no substance. Much like the owner and his team. It's a museum where a football game breaks out every once in awhile.
