Since the playoffs expanded to 12 teams in 1990, teams that start a season 4-1 make the playoffs 77.1 percent of the time (101 of 131 teams). Of course, the last time the Cowboys started a season with a 4-1 mark came in 2008 and they missed the playoffs. Teams with a 3-2 record after five games make the playoffs 49.
