Was anybody else sick of hearing Stuart Scott say that the NFL brought in 3.7 billion in TV revenue last year? The projected cap was expected to be $105M - $110M which would be a payroll of 3.36 billion to 3.52 billion.

Hey, you have eyes like that and tell me you would not have a hard time reading the tele-prompter.

You should not make fun of the guy.

TV isn't the league's only revenue stream though.

Any idea what the total revenue is?

If 60% (what the NFLPA is asking for) would equal ~$115 MM per team, then I'd say total revenue is somewhere around $6.133 billion.

it varies between teams -- which is why the owners can't agree on a CBA. if the team owns the stadium, they make a ton of extra cash in naming rights, etc. popular teams sell lots of merch. tickets and concessions make a decent amount as well. plus when teams get sold, expansion occurs etc., the league gets a huge cut.

Any idea of how much the expenses are and loan payments for the stadiums that the NFLPA want revenue from?

I believe there is also a disagreement regarding how to define "total" revenue. so the total you calculated probably excludes some stuff. Regardless, no one in this league is going hungry.

it looks like the NFLPA settled on 59.5% -- which tells me that Upshaw really did well by the players as the original offer was 56%

Good question. Labor for most industries equals 75% of costs. At least thats what I remember from undergrad.

I'm not sure where this number came from. The highest percentage that I was able to find was 55-60% (trucking industry). Also, the 60% that the NFL is agreeing to doesn't include benefits, social security taxes, and the salaries of non-players.

I was talking about labor costs as a percentage of costs, not as a percentage of revenue. I just remember the 75% number being thrown around a lot in undergrad.

The players dont get all the TV money and they get revenues from other avenues.

I have no idea why your whining about Stuart Scott. The only thing you can whine about Stuart Scott over is his eyes and when he says "Boo-yah" or "as cool as the other side of the pillow". Man, I have never seen one guy live off of one 'slogan' for so long. At least Boomer has a stable of saying he can change out from time to time. Though I gotta say Boomer in the longest yard was decent. Dan Patrick with his porno mustache was even decent in the movie.

That seems to be the forte of most of the ESPN people. Linda Cohn's "For the love of elevation" drives me up a wall too.
