1. New England Patriots: The Patriots are an outstanding organization and that's because everything starts at the top. The quality of the players and the coaching staff and the professionalism of all the people in the organization are a result of what owner Robert Kraft does and how he handles the organization.

2. Denver Broncos: Another strong, smart owner and again the result is a strong franchise.

3. Dallas Cowboys: Even though he has taken some chances that I might not take as an owner, Jerry Jones does a great job. He wants his team to be the greatest every year and he'll do what he thinks it takes to make that happen.

4. Indianapolis Colts: This isn't just about winning this past Super Bowl. This is about sticking with a great coach when a lot of other organizations would have gone in a different direction.

5. Baltimore Ravens: Brian Billick has been here for a while and has a lot of control over his team's decisions, and his partnership with general manager Ozzie Newsome has produced a pretty consistent playoff contender.

I don't know that I disagree with any of that.

I actually like that he recognized Denver - that team has been very well run for a good while.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think you have to put the Eagles somewhere... Probably even in front of the underachieving Ravens. IMO Billick is the most overrated coach in the league -- if anyone really rates him highly anymore.

But other than cheaping out on a veteran or two, but Eagles do a great job in FA, the draft, and cap management.

the pats? oh come on, mabye for the last 10 years there top 5, but as a franchise, please. They've failed way to much to just put them at #1, cause they won a few trophys. (and since one was fixed)

I think the author is referring to the front office that's currently in place, not everything that's happened in the history of the franchise. Otherwise, how would you justify putting Baltimore in and not Pittsburgh or San Francisco?

That is the truth. I highly respect the Denver Broncos, it seems they always come a tad short of making a deep playoff run. I want their offensive line coach here in Dallas.

I think Philthy might go ahead of Baltimore...since they got the new stadium, and paid McNabb & Kearse, they're not as cheap as they used to seem.

You know, Theisman has actually gotten away from his homerism. And I (ugggh I'm saying this) liked him this last year as an analyst.

I agree with this. I hate to say it too, but year in and year out they impress me.

Alot of people would say Belichick doesn't handle the *other* people *cough* Parcells, Mangini *cough* with professionalism.

I would probable argue a bit about the Ravens, but not too hard. That's actually one of the more intelligent comments I've ever heard from "Norman."

If not for firing Marty, I'd say you'd have to throw in San Diego ahead of the Ravens. They've made some pretty shrewed draft day trades this decade.
