PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Tiger Woods shot a 42 on the front nine of the first round of The Players Championship on Thursday and withdrew from the tournament.

It was Woods' first competitive event since the Masters, as he has been recovering from knee and Achilles injuries.

Through five holes, Woods played bogey golf and visibly winced after hitting his approach shot onto the fifth green. It was unclear if the reaction was from pain or frustration as the ball came to rest in the rough well left of the hole. He failed to get up and down and made bogey to drop to 5 over after five holes in pristine, nearly windless scoring conditions at TPC Sawgrass.

"I'm having a hard time walking," Woods said after walking off the course.

He should just retire. He has millions and doesn't concentrate on playing the game anymore. All he is doing is dragging an incredible career through the mud.

He needs to get back to sexing it up with the women. Ever since he got his addiction under control he has struggled on the golf course.

:laugh2: Gives more credence to that saying, "getting paid and l**d"!

Strange considering he was right there in the Masters.

At any rate, he won't be the same anytime soon - not for a while at least. He needs to just take some time off and go travel the world a bit solo and just get away from cameras and microphones.

Wow, we've got some chicken littles in this thread that aren't chicken littles on the Cowboys. Amazing. He's only 35 people. He's injured. It happens to athletes. Any other golfer withdraws from a tourney do to injury and no one says a peep. Tiger does it and the future of his success in questionable at best. Please.

does anybody even care

I hope he never wins another tourney

:lmao:

can't be the Golden Beat

Come on Tiger give it up

 This is as bad as the newscaster this morning that referred to him as Jack Nicholson.

If this injury thing he has going on won't go away, he might be done. But he is still young enough to play a few more years.

Best he can do is enter more events not take time off. Tiger has gone through a complete swing change and you can work on that on the driving range all day long but bringing it to the course is different and playing a handful of events as he does only makes it harder.

I don't fault Tiger for pulling out of the Players it was reported early on that he sustained an injury at the Masters and it was iffy to be able to play in this tournament.

He really needs to take the rest of the year off and heal up and get his head straight.
