IRVING -- The Cowboys are not required to release an injury report, but backup running back Tashard Choice (concussion) will not practice at Valley Ranch on Tuesday.

It's more of precaution but the team expects Choice to practice on Wednesday.

Choice suffered a concussion during Sunday's game vs. the Eagles, and reported no issues following the game. The Cowboys sent Choice to a neurologist on Monday to get checked out.

Also, safety Pat Watkins (knee) said he hopes to practice Tuesday, and if so, it will be on a limited basis.

Cornerback Terence Newman (knee) underwent an MRI on Monday that reported no structural damage. Newman should practice on Wednesday. He missed a few snaps on Sunday vs. the Eagles but returned to the game.

Right tackle Marc Colombo (ankle and knee) is expected to practice on Tuesday. For the Saturday's playoff game vs. the Eagles, Colombo will have his ankle taped heavily and the team doesn't expect him to have any problems.

Ok, I guess I don't understand...

Per the NFL's new policy on concussions, players MUST be symptom free for one full week AFTER a concussion to even be eligible to play in a game...This was the reason Martellus had to sit out wo games.

With Choice, however, he sustained a concussion on Sunday evening...And our front office seems to be expecting him to play on Saturday...not even a week after sustaining the concusion, nevermind recovering from the symptoms themselves. Is this even possible?

I don't know if he had what is truly considered a concussion.

Perhaps the exception is if he just had "concussion-like symptoms".

Yeah, I was wondering that as well...But everything I've read says he did in fact have a concussion. So I don't get it.

I don't see anything in the NFL's concussion policy that says a player has to be asymptomatic for seven days.

"Once removed for the duration of a practice or game, the player should not be considered for return-to-football activities until he is fully asymptomatic, both at rest and after exertion, has a normal neurological examination, normal neuropsychological testing, and has been cleared to return by both his team physician(s) and the independent neurological consultant."

I would 100% keep Choice out this week.

When both Felix and MBIII are healthy, we don't really need him, but when either are out, he's an absolutely crucial asset. We need him healthy in case either of the other two get dinged.

I don't think that they actually passed that rule, but it is something that they will be considering in the offseason. As for Choice, I hope he can suit up, but lets not use him unless we need to.

From what has been reported he did not have any signs of a concussion on Monday which is the day they must be symptom free to play the next weekend.

Thanks for the info...And like jswalker1981 mentioned, I think the rule will be tightened a little in the off-season to contain the exact verbiage in question, but is not distinctly stated yet.

I do remember that the Cowboys released a statement after the new concussion rule rumors, saying that it wouldn't change anything for them because they always hold a player out at least a week anyway...which doesn't appear to be the case with Choice though.

In any event, if he feels like he can play, then I'd be happy to have him available!

By the way, if they'd have had this rule in 1993 Troy Aikman wouldnt have been allowed to QB the Super Bowl after that NFC Championship win vs SF. The Super Bowl was one week later than year rather than the usual two. And unlike Choice, Aikman had a MAJOR concussion.

People forget how tough that guy was. Some QB's might have been out 3-4 weeks or so with that type of concussion. He plays one week later in the Super Bowl, and other than one pick (his only one in 3 super bowl games) played a helluva game.

Hope Newman is healthy, we got really lucky with a few missed deep passes last week. It would have been a different game if they had connected, a gimpy Newmy could give up a lot in a hurry.
