Not sure I agree with him about "stock down" with Sean lee, especially since it was his first game action after very limited training camp work. He also notes Romo had two passes dropped, but Witten's drop didnt hurt us as he was only going to gain a yd or two anyway. The ball Austin dropped was not thrown that well either, but its a catch he normally makes.

Stock Report: Barry Church up and Tony Romo is down
August, 22, 2010 Aug 229:05AM CTEmail Print Comments By Calvin WatkinsThe Cowboys moved to 2-1 in the preseason as a result of their 16-14 victory over San Diego. The Chargers said they came after the Cowboys with blitzes and thought they were more physical than the visitors.

Jerry Jones agreed. There were two injuries, one of which gave someone quality playing time. Here's who played well and who didn't.

Stock Up
Martellus Bennett. The young tight end is still playing with a swollen left ankle, that looks like a softball. Bennett led the Cowboys in receiving yards with 40 and he also had four catches including a 19-yard touchdown reception.

Robert Brewster. Who said Tony Romo was scared about Brewster starting at right tackle. He had few mental mistakes, a false start in the fourth quarter was the only glaring mistake. Brewster did have some help on pass plays, but he also moved to left tackle in the second half and performed well.

Stock Down

Tony Romo. He looked bad. He misfired two passes to Miles Austin, he threw off his backfoot, while under pressure leading to an interception. He was hurt by two drops, Jason Witten and Austin, and threw seven incompletions.

Miles Austin. Yes he did catch a touchdown. But he had a drop and of the five passes thrown his way he caught just two. Austin has done an excellent job in training camp, very good camp. But for one night. He didn't do so well.

Watkins is NOT making this team, days in dallas are over, in fact shouldn't of made the team last year.

Lee's first game in the pros, he got better as the game went on, I suspect he'll play alot better next week, just too excited to be out there last night, he'll settle down..

Watkins said Brooking is being ruled out for the rest of preseason as a precaution, so Lee will probably get a ton of PT the next two games. Might even start in Brooking's place.

I think the Watkins reference in the title is Calvin Watkins the auther of the article.

I think Watkins, the article of the author, was watching the wrong game. Lee played well, and he has the wrong Williams being lost out there.

i knew bennett was still bothered by the ankle.we should take it easy on him till the opener.we cant afford to have a hobbled martyb as our 2nd TE.

That's about as gently as anyone could put it. How could anyone say Lee had a "down arrow" kind of game?

Oh, because their name is Calvin Watkins.

Oh yeah, I knew that, just didn't explain it well enough... The way Church, Gordon and McCray have played, Patrick Watkins time in dallas is over.

Now Calvin Watkins should of been cut last year after he told Wade in a press conference, that he could do a better job as the headcoach than wade....

Let's see Sean Lee

you're in your first game action in the NFL, you played the better part of 3 quarters.

you had some mistakes out there, but you also nearly single-handed stopped San Diego's running game on 3rd & 4th down to seal the game.

im VERY DISAPPOINTED in you Sean, how dare you call yourself a football player.

Sincerely,

Calvin

Sean Lee. The second-round pick looked a little lost out there. He was behind on some passes in the flat and was late in covering the tight ends. He did play a lot and as the game wore on and got better. We thought he was thinking a little too much and not reacting.

Is he being serious with this trash. He looked real lost when he clinched the game for us on the 4th down. I hope Lee's stock is down the whole year if he makes plays like he did last night.

Yeah, I made a post where I pointed out some of the issues I saw Sean Lee having throughout the game. Still there's no way I would say his stock went down after last night...that's just Watkins talking out of you know where.

Sean Lee started off slowly, and had trouble covering and penetrating. However, he made up for those mistakes with some stellar 4th quarter plays. I don't think he was great last night, but he certainly didn't play badly either. He will continue to improve for sure over the next couple preseason games, and I think he will be a big time contributor for us once the regular season begins.

Stock up not mentioned:

Free looks like the real deal. Outstanding mobility.

McCray special teams ace.

Victor Butler play maker.

Stock Down not mentioned:

Bigg Davis still cant pick up the blitz.

Good. I'd leave him in there as much as possible. He has no idea how good he can be yet and neither do we. What a solid pick.

I saw a lot of good things last night.

  • I thought some of the young offensive linemen who had struggled in the first two games looked much better.
  • Sean Lee was a great draft pick.
  • Barry Church is always around the ball.
  • DeMarcus Ware was great as usual.
  • Dallas forced some turnovers, which they didn't do enough last year.
  • Gordon looks like a solid vet and will be valuable to this defense, especially when Newman gets hurt. I like McCann, too.
  • Several of the young defenders played well again (Butler, Brandon Williams, etc.).
  • Bennett played hard and well.

On the not-so-good side, I thought Andre Gurode was terrible (again). Spencer didn't have a good game, either.

Oh, and Calvin Watkins is hopeless.

Sean Lee look's like a Brooking starter kit!

It's amazing to me that these reporters still have jobs.

I looked it up, Lee led the team with 8 tackles. If he stays healthy he is going to lead the team in tackles for the next 5 years. He played better and more physical in his first game action ever, then Carpenter showed in his whole career in Dallas.

Mr. Watkins probably could not find any material to steal so he was forced to write his own which explains this garbage.

Ummmm, Spencer was getting pressure galore last night.

single biggest concern i have right now.

just doesn't have the mobility to pick up stunts and blitzing lbs.

and on running plays, he's not able to pick up the lb on the move.

he's limited to taking the fat *** in front of him and moving him.
