By the way, "good enough" implies that there is a standard by which one is being measured. The standard is the winner. The Giants were good enough to win because they won. And since there's only one winner, only one team can claim to be good enough.

I know you're trying to find a way to circumvent reality. But it's not going to work. Reality speaks with a clarity speculation can't.

Giants = Super Bowl winner = good enough.
Patriots (18-1) = Super Bowl losers = not good enough.

It doesn't get much simpler than that.

I have been consistent in what I've said. In my quote you pulled addressing you, I was specifically addressing your statement of me wanting to make this a black-and-white issue. Hence my response to you.

bkight didn't address it from a black-and-white angle. So while acknowledging his hypothetical, I immediately explained that the reality of the matter trumps a hypothetical. You conveniently omitted that portion of my comment.

You're trying to take what I said out of context. But if you read it in context, it makes perfectly good sense.

First, luck is intangible. It really can't be measured.
Second, when it comes to issues of skill, luck plays less of a role. I don't care how lucky I am, if I get 11 of my friends who are non-professional football players, we're not beating the Cowboys or any NFL team for that matter.
Third, luck is an excuse. Both teams are playing on the same field, with the same rules, in the same elements. The team that takes better advantage of the conditions is usually the better team. And, really, if someone said the Cowboys were more lucky than talented and that explains their ability to make the playoffs, would you buy that?
Fourth, this is a game that measures success based on wins. It measures whether a team is good or "good enough" by whether that team can beat another team. If you can't beat that other team, you weren't good enough. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

In short, I don't think we were good enough to get to the Super Bowl. Good enough to get to the playoffs? Absolutely because we made the playoffs. Good enough to get to the Super Bowl? No. Otherwise, we'd be playing in the Super Bowl. But I do like the direction of this team, and do think with a few key parts we will be good enough to get to the Super Bowl. To be determined at a later date.
