When the Cowboys figure out what kept them from making the playoffs for the third straight year, Tony Romo will not be among their biggest concerns. You will see that evidence this offseason when the Cowboys sign him to a contract extension that will make the talking heads scream even louder.

Tony Romo is a good quarterback.

He's thrown for 4,000-plus yards four times in his career and for at least 25 touchdowns five times. He's never been benched since taking over for Drew Bledsoe during the 2006 season. He has beaten Eli and Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Drew Brees and Donovan McNabb.

However, Romo isn't a quarterback who can lead a team to a Super Bowl.

he had his chance sunday night to prove everyone wrong and he played about as bad a game as i've seen him play other than that detroit debacle.

i've enjoyed watching him over the years ...but he simply is not a championship caliber qb.

it's time to move on.

it does not mean he's a bad person or a bad qb.

I personally would take Romo over any of the QBs mentioned, but that's just me. So yes IMO Romo can lead a team to the promise land, but like the guys I mentioned he will need some help.

Its not just yes he could - its of course he could.

Professional football is the ultimate TEAM game. Never forget that. The most balanced teams in all 3 phases are very likely to be the best.

And Romo has skills too. The Cowboys just need to rein him in a bit and let others help him. I think it can be done. Whether it will be done is another matter.

I agree. I've been on record for several years saying that the Cowboys need to protect Romo with a running game. I think we should have become a run-oriented team more than a pass-oriented team. Not that we abandon the pass altogether. But we need to be more like the 90s Cowboys teams.

But I believe Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones want to put things in Romo's hands. And while that has it's blessings, it also comes with its curse. I think we turned the offense over to Romo too quickly, and now he has learned habits that won't be easy for him to unlearn. It's hard taking back the car keys when you've let the kids experience life on the Autoban.

Romo has the ability to win one, but he needs a line/running game to help. I don't think he will ever win a SB if he is continually asked to carry the team, that is too much for most QB's to handle.

Or more importantly, he needs a better offensive scheme. What Garrett keeps putting out there is bad, very bad. If it is status quo next season with no new OC, we will see the same 8-8 season, give or take a game.

Romo + Garrett will never win a superbowl if things are not changed offensively. Garrett(offensively) is what is holding this team back, not Romo.

With all that being said, Tony did have a horrible game.
