ESPNRadio Blurb: Jerry Mad About Loss, Ray Sherman HC Candidate

Heard a short blurb on the ESPNRadio SportsCenter update saying that Jerry Jones was still fuming about losing to Arizona, and although he hasn't begun "the search," Jason Garrett is definitely a candidate, as is Ray Sherman.

Internal Rooney Rule satisfaction = Garrett has the job, in my opinion.

Kind of classless to do that. I dont think that will happen for a second.

I think he gives a number of guys interviews.

There are other blogs posted about this, but I think he said he will be one of the candidates interviewed, i.e. possibly other minority candidates not named Ray Sherman.

Yeah this is the negative aspect of the Rooney Rule. Teams just bring in a minority "candidate" for a BS interview just to satisfy the rule with no intent of even seriously considering them.

Even if true, it gives the minority candidate some face time and if he does a good job at the interview, owners will talk about it at their meetings.

You can say it's pointless but I disagree.

Absolutely not true. He doesn't have that in his contract, but you are right, if he did he could hire him without interview.

But once again, from what I read and heard, Jerry only said Ray SHerman would be one of the candidates. And he said apparently he wont be the only minority candidates to be interviewed for HC.

Hopefully that's in the contract. Then the media circus won't be that bad come offseason.

Not to mention that owners discuss with other owners who had positive interviews and plans on how to resurrect a franchise.

That can't be true, because you can't have it in his contract that he's the next head coach. That would be considered circumventing the Rooney rule. I think Jerry knows he's gonna hire Garrett, but he would be a fool not to do his do diligence. Garrett has done a great job, about as good as you can expect given the circumstances, but that doesn't mean you don't atleast look at what's out there.

I think Jerry will tell Garrett start contacting people for openings on a potential staff as soon as the season ends, while Jerry interviews several canidates (on top of Ray Sherman, he may interview Mike Singletary).

You might want to listen to it again then. Jerry said long time ago, there was no such contract. That has been repeated couple of times at least. So you pretty heard it exact opposite, or you might want to hear it loud and clear few more times...

Yes it can. Thats how Seattle did with Jim More Jr. replacing Holmgren without interviewing another person.

I am really surprised how many fans don't know about that.

Jim Mora had a clause to become the next HC of the Seahawks when he was an assistant under Mike Holgrem.
