And, in McShay's mock draft, the Cowboys slide into the ... No. 25 slot. (Playoffs!)

Anyway, on with the selection. With the 25th overall pick of the 2017 draft, McShay's way-too-early prediction is that the Cowboys take ... Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner?

McShay explains:

"Leidner shows some upside as a passer, but I'll be looking to see if he can improve his accuracy (59.5 completion rate and 14-11 TD-INT ratio in 2015). Listed at 6-foot-4 and 237 pounds, Leidner has ideal size and has shown the ability to make plays with his legs off designed runs and scrambles. He's a late riser to keep an eye on, similar to Blake Bortles and Carson Wentz."

So there you go. However, if Leidner does become the next Bortles or Wentz, that means he'll wind up a top-five pick (Bortles was taken third overall by the Jaguars in 2014; Wentz went No. 2 to the Eagles last week).

Leidner is classic McShay where he tries to one up the competition by being the first to get on this kid's bandwagon.

I've seen a few Minny games as I am a college junkie, and this kid looks decent.............. nothing more.

Scouts project. That is what they all do.

Nah. He's never been employed as a NFL scout. He's a media type who fancies himself on par with scouts.

I never said that he was an NFL scout. He does scouting of players for his employer does he not?

We're not taking a QB next year. Dak is going to be the next great Dallas signal caller who ushers in a new Golden Age for the team.

Disclaimer: I tried to utter those words with total seriousness and complete confidence in their rightness, but I'm not exactly feeling it inside. Hope Dak works out, though.

If Tony goes down again next year, they move up for Kaaya/Watson. No doubt about it. Can't have your 36 year old starting QB spend more time rehabbing than playing. I'm rooting for Tony to win a SB just as hard as the next guy, but at some point you have to face reality and start planning for the post-Romo era. And no, Dak is not in that plan. He's a carrer back-up, nothing more.
