This past Saturday at the Alamodome, state high school championship game. Anybody go? Titans won 13-10.

I was there with my wife. The rockets are a local high school in the San Antonio area. I gotta say I was surprised to see a very limited pass attack from both teams. Mostly a grind it out defensive battle..

I watched part of it on FSN. From what I've seen of Trinity this season and in recent years, they are grind-it-out team. Many high school teams are using the spread now, but Trinity is one of the few who still likes to run more than pass. It worked this year.

Also, minor correction - they're the Euless Trinity Trojans, not the Titans.

Want a grind it out team? I went to Everman High School. They were averaging like 35 yards passing and 400+ rushing a game. They finally lost to Highland Park last week or the week before. Right before I moved to NYC, they won two state championships though. :)

That's another good one. I was at the Wichita Falls Rider-Everman game (the week before they played Highland Park). They kept pounding away on the Rider defense. They were down 13-0 going into the 4th quarter when all that running finally took it's toll and resulted in three fourth quarter touchdowns to win it 21-19.

Being in NY, I don't get to see or hear anything about HSF in Texas anymore. I just logon to DMN and click the high school football link and look at the scores.

I knew they weren't going to make it though. You just cannot have 35 yards a game passing and expect to win. A good defense will just throw the house at your rushing game and thats what they started to see. Their defense saved them in the Wichita Falls game by not allowing the WF to run the score up. Highland Park is a much better offensive team and that did them in.

I haven't followed 4A very closely this season, but my uncle catches a lot of games and was very surprised that Wichita Falls Rider didn't call more running plays for its QB. He thought they passed too much, especially compared to other games throughout the season. As little as he ran the ball that game he had a lot of success. They also made a decision to kick a field goal down by 1 point late in the game - a 39 field goal is not automatic in college, let alone high school.

I am surprised to still see these power running games - the spread offense has really caught fire in the state.

Oh, and I agree that www.hsgametime.com/dfw (what the DMN uses) is very useful for DFW high school sports news.
