Hated the league and idea of it.
Making a UCL Semi to face a Super Team means something.
Joining a league where you face ALL those teams twice a year is just gross.
Reduces any majesty and takes away from the domestic leagues who toiled for hundreds of years to create the super teams that were breaking away.

Had Chelsea stayed in I would have chosen another team to support.

From the emerging details, it appears the teams would have remained in their domestic leagues, but played in the ESL instead of the Champions League.

In the meantime, while all the attention was on ESL v UEFA, the small countries were downgraded even more by UEFA. NONE of their teams are allowed into the Europa League qualifiers. Instead they've been relegated to a new third tier of European competition being introduced immediately. So none of them will get any revenue generating games against top teams - instead its revenue sucking games against small teams in far away places that are difficult and expensive to travel to. A League of Ireland club employee once told me an away game against a small central Asian country could put a team into bankruptcy.(Never understood why the central Asian republics ended up in UEFA).

Nobodies watching even the second tier games other than the small fanbases of the teams involved. Money should go where its earned. Throwing money at some random team in Ireland isn't going to make anyone watch........its kinda like the WNBA. Its basically supported by the NBA and ESPN on the theory that if it has sufficient money and exposure, it will take off and be financially viable. Its a load of garbage but anyone coming out against it risks the wrath of social media.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has heavily criticised American owners of football clubs, accusing them of having “a different idea of sport” following the failed Super League project.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are all owned by Americans, and Tebas accuses them of ‘failing to understand’ English football culture. All three clubs have since issued apologies to their fans.

Tebas also confirmed that La Liga’s participants in the breakaway Super League would not face punishments for their involvement. The English so-called “big six”, however, are still waiting to discover whether the Premier League or FA will sanction them.

What did Tebas say?
Speaking about the Super League, he said: “I was surprised by some of the English clubs, not so much Manchester United, as these American owners have a different idea of sport, with closed leagues. In Europe that does not exist, we have another tradition.”

He added: “The most surprised by what has happened have been them (English club owners) as they have had to apologise, they did not understand the culture of English football.”

“The six English clubs will never enter into a Super League. Or the French or German clubs. So this idea of the Super League is dead.”

What you say is true re: throwing money at a random team - the LOI isnt big enough. However what would work is a European level franchise in Dublin.

Interesting that in rugby, which has a much lower following than soccer in Ireland, they went down the franchise route (albeit all franchises owned by the IRFU) and ended up with 3 x big money pro teams and 1 reasonable pro team playing at European level.

I was against anything that takes out promotion and relegation and this was doing that. It was nearly a closed league. That’s fine in America (except MLS needs prorel) but not in Europe. Glad this collapsed. Eventually I think something like this will happen and now UEFA must be on their toes and pins and needles as well. But it must be an open system. I don’t care how good you are, you can still be relegated out of this league.

Also, the money they were going to have would have placed them so far above the Democratic teams that they will all finish in the top half every year. This seems to be the last straw for Arsenal fans. They want Kroenke out.
