Well according to Tony, they had already agreed to divorce and he had planned to file in S.A. because it was convenient, but Eva beat him to the punch.

What I heard is that Tony and Eva already had planned to divorce and he wanted to file in SA a week earlier, but she wanted to wait and do it in LA to coincide with some press event she was doing because she was worried about public relations. Obviously, Parker as an athlete cares a lot less about PR than an actress would, as long as Tony can play he'll have a career. Eva on the other hand needs publicity.
