Jerry Jones is an interesting study.
We have all seen the qualities that have made him a very wealthy man. He has the foresight and vision that has been evidenced by his original purchase of the Cowboys, his decisive hiring of Jimmy Johnson, the construction of his new stadium and a host other other decisions through the years.
But Jerry also has some qualities that have made for a miserable 16 years. He is a narcissist. He is stubborn to a fault. Amazingly, while he has long term vision casting ability as a business man, he has very short term vision as a "football man".
I watched him post game last night. He was clearly angry. Unbelievably, however, he never gets sufficiently angry at himself. The ONE guy that NEEDS to be fired, is him. We all know, however, that he won't do that.
So what is next? This is where Jones gets interesting. I know I'm probably in the minority, but my view is that we are actually on the right track. Really do.
But I wonder if Jones might just pull the trigger on yet another change? And if he does, what direction might he go?
I don't think Mike Holmgren would be the guy. I think he is more of a counselor to Jerry than a guy who would work for him.
I don't think Gruden deserves the job. His best work has been when he followed guys who were almost there, and then when it was HIS work, it degenerated.
My gut feel, for some reason, is that Andy Reid could be on his radar.
I'm not sure that Jerry knows what he wants to do at this very moment. In my mind's eye, I think Stephen is trying to talk his father off a ledge.
Next few days will be interesting.
