Even though we gave up 48 I still liked

The defensive gameplan. I was waiting for the rush three and play coverage today. Brady would of picked it apart in about 7 play drives instead of 14. I liked trying to bring pressure on Brady. At least we went down bringing the house instead of being a team like the Jets today who just sat back and played consertaviley. Brady just made plays. Hes good. In addition, their oline beat our front 7 today as well. This was missed. We must of blitzed 75 percent of the game and rarley did Brady have to move.

Even if we played a consertative defense I still think it would had been the same outcome; however, bringing some pressure made Brady work on 3rd downs. If we played consertativley and rushed three there would of never been a 3rd down. He would had attained 10 yards on 1st or 2nd down in holes of the zones. Id say back to the drawing boards because the season is a marathon and not a sprint.

Thing is, I would watch 2 plays of good defense and then watch us do nothing on the 3rd play. Over and over. It's not like they were blowing us up for huge plays and just gashing us. It was a slow death 3 plays at a time.

which ultimately killed the defence by tiring them out.

In the second quarter, it was great to get the defensive TD but it meant the d was on the field most of the quarter.

I remember thinking that at the time and hoping it wouldn't end up mattering. I'll take the TD, but they just went right back on the field.

Whatever the defensive gameplan was, we should scrap the part of it where Greg Ellis drops into coverage against Wes Welker.

Bingo!

I was screaming at the TV expecting Wade or ANYONE on the Cowboys sideline to hear me.

It made me sick seeing Ellis on Welker for a 2nd, 3rd time and so on.

Once should have been enough to notice Ellis cant cover Welker.

That's what happens when Nate Jones can't cover a baby with a king size comforter.

Jones is as bad as it gets. He repeatedly got burned (after re-watching the entire game in slo-mo) It was so easy for Brady, that he was almost tired of going to Welker, he wanted to look more like a balanced QB so he chose to go elsewhere.

I wish we could have Glenn back, I really do - at least until the season is over, and then cut him.

Ding Ding Ding.

It was so frustrating seeing the defense do a good job on first and second down only to have it gashed every third down.

With a fully healthy secondary maybe that would be different but it still sucked.

Yeah. It was like we went into OH-Crap mode on 3rd down.

Definitely, nothing tires a defense out like giving up a 15 yard pass on a 3rd and 10. Penalties also hurt us, whether or not they were right calls (Newman's pass interference call even though he doesn't touch Moss). We had to play perfect football to beat them yesterday, and we didn't. I commend the team on their effort. I don't think that one bit of the team gave up, we just got beat. Though, I was joking with my dad, that this was a trap game heading into next week's game with the Vikings.

Not saying Jones is a good player, but Greg Ellis being in coverage against Welker had absolutely nothing to do with Nate Jones. Ellis was covering Welker because they Cowboys were running a zone blitz, and that's the matchup you get when you run zone blitzes. They don't tell you those things in offseason fluff articles about exotic blitzing schemes.

Yep. 3rd down was a killer yesterday. We did very well on 1st & seconds but got out the red capes on practically every 3rd down.

I'll blame a lot of the defensive problems on the fact that the offense had them on the field most of the first quarter. Until Barber starts, and we start to move the ball in the first quarter, we can count on the defense being gassed late in the game....ok against a team with a losing record, but not ok for the playoffs. Insert Barber early and (hopefully Glenn) and you have a much different offense I think.

BTW, I expected to see us use a lot of Fasano on 2TE sets and FB passes.

That was one play where that happened, but the entire game was Nate on Welter or Welters, and it was Man against infant. Maybe late in the game when it was over, but if you go back and watch, it was Nate all day, every day.

It was kinda sad.

Couldn't agree more. Jones was lost out there.

Its not like Newman was out there covering everyone, he gave up a few first downs himself. It didnt seem to matter who was covering who on 3rd down, Brady found the open WR and made the throws necessary to keep the chains moving. Dallas has a very good defense, I dont think any team in the league has the players to matchup with Moss, Stallworth, Welker and Watson when Brady is delivering the ball the way he has been this season. Our front 7 controlled the LOS, shut down their running game and got some decent pressure on Brady but it didnt seem to matter.

I think how good our defense is remains to be seen. We've played two teams with winning records so far this season, and they've put up 35 and 48 points respectively against us. However, we seem to be very effective against the worst offenses in the league. We got that part down.

Jones is not good, but Ellis got matched up on Welker twice on zone blitzes that went for big plays.

It's very simple. The defense takes ITSELF off of the field by producing a stronger pass rush on 3rd down. NO player, whether it's Greg Ellis or Deion Sanders, can cover after so long. I totally agree on the Ellis coverage thing, don't get me wrong. With him just getting back, he should ONLY be rushing on 3rd downs. Put another DE out in coverage, and ONLY if they are covering a TE.

The big thing is that there was little to no push up the middle on passing downs. You don't get in Brady's face, you lose BIG.
