why does just about everybody else see that TO has a serious problem but you cowboy fans...you guys sound like TO,well its the media..they blow things up to get at TO...stop BEING A FAN FOR A SECOND,it might be TO..
Fact: Owens missed training camp due to a sore hamstring.
Media Take: Owens is faking the injury to get out of training camp!
Fans Take: What about Steve Smith and Hines Ward who have the same injury and were out longer?
Media Rebuttal:
Fact: Owens went to the hospital after taking painkillers. Initial Police report says it was an attempted suicide.
Fact: Owens and the person who called 911 claimed they never said it was a suicide attempt.
Fact: Owens was let out of the hospital within 15 hours of being admitted for the alleged suicide attempt.
Fact: He never threw up or had his stomach pumped despite allegedly taking 35 painkiller pills.
Media Take: OWENS ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
Fans Take: That makes no sense, especially since it's Texas law that he has to stay under suicide watch for at least 24 hours.
Media Take: HE'S DOING THAT TO BE THE CENTER OF ATTENTION!
Fans Take: What the???
Media Take: HE'S DEPRESSED IN DALLAS!
Fan's Take: Don Lebetard said that this is the happiest he's seen him in 18 months.
Media Take: IT'S THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT'S FAULT!
Most of the media realizes now that it's unlikely it was a suicide attempt and at the very least, the 35 pills taken theory is completely ridiculous. So now they are looking for others to blame (Dallas PD, fire and rescue), Kim Etheridge, or Owens himself.
I don't blame them for reporting the initial police report. But it was clear very early yesterday morning that the initial police report may be false. Even the Dallas PD, as early as 10 AM stated that this wasn't the final report on the matter and they would investigate the matter further. Can you blame them? It's standard protocol in a case like this. People were in a frantic situation and miscommunications are going to occur. Even the biggest dullard would understand that's going to happen and that's why initial police reports can be misconstrued.
Despite that, the media kept presenting this as a clear cut suicide attempt. They NEVER asked what the procedure is for keeping people who attempted suicide in the hospital. They NEVER asked if a suicide attempt is considered a criminal act or just a medical situation. Instead, they just kept speculating and treating the speculation as fact. Now they are looking for people to blame, whether it be the Dallas PD and Fire and Rescue, Etheridge, or Owens.
There was some good reporting out there. Guys like Todd Archer, Clarence Hill (who did probably the best job of anybody out there), and Trey Wingo were downright excellent. But most of the media should be ashamed of themselves. Then again, you need some integrity and character to have any shame in the first place.
