Everyone ate the cheese... loss was the best thing to happen

For the past few weeks, EVERYONE has been talking about the Cowboys. Sports analysts saying nonsense things like us being the best team in the NFC, fans saying homerish things, Romo doing media stunts everywhere, TOs big birthday bash, etc.

Now here are the Saints, who prepared diligently and silently came in here and destroyed us. Now the Cowboys can realize they are very beatable. We all know Romo is very human.

But this is the best thing that could've happen. We've been rolling for 4 games, and we got embarrassed by a good team. This should motivate the team to play hard. I do think it will propel us to a win in Atlanta (where I felt we would lose had we beat the Saints), and we have a good chance of running the table to end the season. Barring a miracle, we won't get a first-round bye, but those are overrated anyway (think the Steelers of last year and the Panthers of 2003) and it just means more football for us fans to watch.

Now the media can shut up and the Cowboys can just play. And honestly I think that Sean Payton's onside kick will only come back to haunt him and the Saints in the playoffs. Keep in mind that the Saints more or less had a flawless game. NOTHING was working for us. I feel better about our defense and offense being in consistent than I would about the Saints defense playing well and the offense playing red hot.

Don't worry Cowboys fans, this was a demoralizing loss, but it was the wake-up call everyone needed.

Oh, and maybe Keith Davis's repeated poor angles on runs and passes last night will finally got him replaced by Parrish or Watkins at free safety.

Of course we would like to believe that.

I don't think it was a case of cheese eating as it was a coach and staff that knew our own team better than even our own did.

Cheese eating can result in a case of arrogance. This wasn't arrogance. This was a complete exposure of our weaknesses. And we were completely and utterly unable to compensate.

Unfortunately, we happen to have one each and every season and around this time of the year as well.

That's eating the cheese. To not recognize and compensate for your own weaknesses is a bit of pride. Hopefully the way the Saints game planned for us will make Parcells and co. realize that the way they went about allowing the flats to be wide open in both the NY and NO games won't work.

Personally I think the whole overconfident thing is totally overblown. They got man handled and that is all there is to it really.

If was the "eating the cheese" per se, you would think that after half time Dallas would realize that New Orleans is handling them quite well and they need to step it up a hair.

The commentary after the game didn't suggest cheese eating.

We have done that before. In fact, if Coach Parcells believes the player's were doing that, he has never been bashful about saying so and I am sure he would have indicated they had been. He has said so in the past, in fact the last time the Saints played and beat us in 2004, we had a chance to get back into the playoff race and blew an opportunity then to. After the game, he mentioned the team's attitude.

By saying that he felt we had a good gameplan and "didn't execute" that isn't cheese eating. To me, that term refers to an overconfidence in skill and a belief that you are better than you are.

Okay, perhaps I used the wrong term.

I still don't think team was as focused as it should have been, all things considered. Romo going around the country doing media things and TO having a huge b-day bash in LA didn't help things at all.

What I am saying is now this team realizes they can be beaten, and beaten badly, and they need to step up their play. And I think it will happen.

Fair enough.

Perhaps now we will not have to see a week of media fawning over Romo with every single media outlet writing about what a wonderful story he is.

I don't think this loss was "needed".

Having said that, perhaps some good can come of it.

Probably the most disconcerting part of the loss to me was Parcells reaction throughout most of the game. None. Flat, lifeless, resigned. Isn't this the demeanor his former players were so concerned about several weeks ago? I don't necessarily need him leading cheers or berating everyone in sight. But show some level of interest or passion.

Did we counter strategize at all?

Parcells looked to me like Bledsoe would look when things failed to go his way. Just went with the flow. No passion to change the flow at all.

I almost getting the feeling that Parcells can't physically take getting angry and yelling at his players anymore.

And if that is the case, he needs to stop coaching after this year.
