On draft day, I wanted one of two guys in the first round. One is an Eagle, and the other is a now suspended Dallas Cowboy. Zeke was such a huge part of our success last year, and instantly became a favorite of everyone; feeding himself first downs, and donating himself to charity.
When 2015 started, and Demarco Murray broke up what we thought could be the next triplets, my heart sank to the bottom of my feet. Sure, he wasn't explosive, or flashy in his play, but you always knew you could count on him to move the chains, and be a professional. Most of us considered him the heart of the team just one year prior.
Romo went down early in 2015, and we all knew what would come of the 2015 season at that point. Yet one thing stood out to some of us. Well, two things really. With no worry about QB play for the opposing defenses, eight men in the box almost every play, our offensive line still managed to create space for an average of 4.6 yards per carry, and help run the football down the throats of our opponents. Underwear, and cologne enthusiast Joseph Randle started the season early on, but it was Darren McFadden who had a career year behind that offensive line. Carrying for over a 1,000 yards in just 10 starts, he quietly kept the team in reach of games we shouldn't even have been a factor in. What would he have had if starting the games Romo played in, where teams had to respect the pass? We can only speculate.
What we can take from this is that those big boys up front are going to create space, and we're going to run the ball, because that's what we do, and we do it well. Best of all, we don't even have to rely on an underwear thief to contribute to the cause.
Also, CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
