On draft day, I wanted one of two guys in the first round. One is an Eagle, and the other is a now suspended Dallas Cowboy. Zeke was such a huge part of our success last year, and instantly became a favorite of everyone; feeding himself first downs, and donating himself to charity.

When 2015 started, and Demarco Murray broke up what we thought could be the next triplets, my heart sank to the bottom of my feet. Sure, he wasn't explosive, or flashy in his play, but you always knew you could count on him to move the chains, and be a professional. Most of us considered him the heart of the team just one year prior.

Romo went down early in 2015, and we all knew what would come of the 2015 season at that point. Yet one thing stood out to some of us. Well, two things really. With no worry about QB play for the opposing defenses, eight men in the box almost every play, our offensive line still managed to create space for an average of 4.6 yards per carry, and help run the football down the throats of our opponents. Underwear, and cologne enthusiast Joseph Randle started the season early on, but it was Darren McFadden who had a career year behind that offensive line. Carrying for over a 1,000 yards in just 10 starts, he quietly kept the team in reach of games we shouldn't even have been a factor in. What would he have had if starting the games Romo played in, where teams had to respect the pass? We can only speculate.

What we can take from this is that those big boys up front are going to create space, and we're going to run the ball, because that's what we do, and we do it well. Best of all, we don't even have to rely on an underwear thief to contribute to the cause.

Also, CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

On the field, I'm actually looking forward to how the team plays without Elliott. It's going to show us a lot about Dak, and a lot about the offensive coaching staff.

Offensively, I think we'll be fine. We're going to lose some of the carries where Zeke makes something out of absolutely nothing. But we'll still have zone rushing plays where the OL gets to their blocks perfectly and we gash teams for big runs. They're still going to respect the rushing game, and Dak's run options. We'll still be a difficult matchup with our receivers.

We will be missing out on a lot of big play ability, so somebody is going to have to step that up. Beasley, Butler, somebody. And the defense needs to come around.

I don't know that we'll have enough in the tank to beat the really good teams like the Chiefs and Eagles in this stretch, but you never know. We ought to be good enough to make a game out of it. Then just see where we are when the dust settles.

WOW!
Not 1 mention of how Garrett is a offensive genius and will draw up plays to create mismatches and school this defenses?

You're such a hater

I hope you’re right man.

The Zeke suspension has me feeling a bit dejected. I want to win games this season. I can’t stand the talk of “get it out of the way now” etc.

Philly does it without a star running back.

Can Dallas?

Soon, we'll know.

Our soft zone coverage is and has been what scares me against good football teams. I'm hoping Alfred can at least help with the short yardage stuff, but you're right. We'll need Beasely, Switzer, or someone of the sort to help out in that phase. I think we'll still get the scores, I just hope the defense gets better against the run, and coverage.

That bugs me, too. I'd certainly rather have him than not, no question. I was doing cartwheels when we drafted him. He's a special player.

We will be fine. We will still run the ball and run the ball effectively. I have no worries at all about this Zeke suspension. I hate it for him because he got rail roaded and that should not be allowed. But as far as Wins and Loses.. we will still win 5 out of the next 6 including beating Philly and beating them soundly.

We all know that Zeke is a special player and his loss will be felt, but I'm not about to give up the season due to this. The Cowboys will run the ball well, not great, but well. I have faith in the OL to open holes. The last couple of games, the OL has shown improvement that they are starting to make things happen.

I'll be honest, but I am totally with you on that first paragraph. I am curious to see how Morris/McFadden work behind this OL getting a bulk of the carries. I am also curious to see what kind of QB Prescott is going to be without Zeke. I am also curious to see if the offensive staff has the ability to game plan and call games without having Elliott there as a safety blanket.

But...but.....

They have the savior in Wentz.

We are stuck with a 4th rounder.

Time to circle the wagons.

Philly has a D that keeps them in games, and an O that scores just enough to win. I don't recall them dominating anyone minus the niners and cardinals, and one of their wins came on 60 yard field goal at the end of the game...

There is a downside here that could make this even more depressing than it already is.

What if it becomes clear Prescott can't be a QB without an elite RB?

Oy.

It's going to tell us a lot, about a lot of the stuff we debate around here so often. The excuses for 2015 when we didn't have Dez, Tony, or Murray were basically all on the lack of a QB. If Dak and Linehan and Co. deliver, we'll know for sure. If they don't, there's not really any excuse.

If they go .500, well. I don't know what to say. They're probably going to go .500, just out of spite.
