. . . at all.

With out holes in the secondary the 2nd and 3rd day picks were to me, at least. . . odd, to say the least.

Having said that, I realize that it is usually a pipe dream to think that draftees can immediately take their place in the lineup.
Had we picked a corner or safety in the 2nd round, the kid would be learning the next year and playing only sporadically.

I trust that Jason knows more than I do (duh!) and that Jason and Jerra have a plan to infuse the secondary and O line with more FA help that I originally thought.

This is not to vent. I just want to state that drafts that have made me happy have failed miserably. Drafts that have left me with a feeling of "whaaaa?" have turned out gud.

I don't really understand the picks after the 1st round. I have enough fatih in the Red Rider to let it play out and hope for the best.

God bless America and god bless my Cowboys.

Everytime I read your posts (I'm fan, I live in your backyard), I can't help but hear Foghorn Leghorn's voice as the narrator.

I tend to agree with your post, but I am starting to have faith that these are great picks and we will all be pleased with the final outcome.

I pissed the Cowboys didn't draft Patrick Peterson in the 7th round. We should have drafted someone a lot better than the crap we got!

Damn you!

Hey, how about that junkyard that wants to move in to FB-Carrollton. On one hand more tax base and car parts. On the other hand, more mosquitos in the summer when water collects on the tires and junked autos.
I say the junkyard will be a good addition to Farmers Branch. I hope yew feel the same.

I guess the question really is if Aaron Williams or Dowling is there at 40 would they have pulled the trigger on them instead of Carter. I kind of bet they would unless they have FA plans. I guess I am little tired of drafting LB's so the smallish Carter inside has me a little worried, not his skill set or his injury but his size is my main concern. At least he has the speed to lose with 20 lbs added on and he would still be a fast ILB.

If you draft a marginal prospect for S you are just better off giving AOA his shot.

On the CB side I know that Jenkins and Newman are physically good enough to get the job done. I believe Scandrick is a serviceable Nickel and that Ball is a decent backup CB.

I feel Dallas war room stuck to their board "tight" ,, much moreso than in recent drafts, but sometimes conservative pays dividends, and obviously too early for anyone with an ounce of speculation should try and determine at this point, but at the very least, the feeling overall, is generally good about this draft.

This was just one of those drafts where you had to step back and get a better feel for what was actually taking place, and that was a team actually drafting players that can get on the field now rather than later. Nice change in philosophy?

Despite the fact that most fans dismissed the RB position as more of a luxury pick than an actual need, this team did not.
MB3 has been a non factor in the running game for basically his entire carreer, but has one characteristic that neither Felix or Tashard have, and thats being a decent Pass Blocker.
Not excellent..... but decent, and far superior in that respect to either Felix or Tashard.

In Garretts offense he values "pass protection" ability and want to, as much as any other measurable. The reason why MB3 continued to carry the rock even with his YPC below 2.5 had more to do with his ability to block than Felix or Tashards inability to carry the rock.

Hope that makes sense, but for example and to further support that rational lets take a look at what both RBs drafted this year excel at.

1 - Protecting the QB

Both Murray and Chapas number one commodity was their dedication in pass protection, and as we have discussed, Garrets rational as well since he shows his grade on his draft hand.

Fast, dedicated group, with team captains abundant in this draft haul for the Cowboys.

Cant see how anyone could expect any better at this point.

Carter is no smaller than James Harrison, Lawrence Timmons, James Farrior or Larry Foote.

I'm not impressed at all with this draft class either except for Smith. Maybe that's a good thing. I've been optimistic the last several drafts with little results so maybe this class will surprise.

The second day of the draft bothers me the most since the LB is said to be wary of contact and the RB is said to be made of glass. Not very positive.

Secondary will be address in free agency...

Kind of interesting all the confidence we have in the above statement considering what we did not do last year...

Seems to me this draft could be sub-titled "Protect Romo."

The two times the Cowboys have missed the playoffs in the Romo era are when Romo went down with season-ending injuries.

Garrett had been frequently criticized for not running the ball more as an offensive coordinator, taking pressure off Romo.

Well, Garrett is showing he wants better run protection and better pass protection. With a healthy Romo, the Cowboys have the ability to win shoot outs. If necessary, it can run the ball and grind out wins.

Both approaches can help the defense. Besides, I believe attitude - not talent - is what the Cowboys defense needs. Roy Ryan aint no Wade Phillips.

Besides, maybe this is Ryan's auditioning season. Let's see if he can work with the groceries he has. If he can make lemonade out of just lemon, a sugar cube and water, maybe Jerry Jones gives him a few more cups of sugar next year.

Good post, Golden...and on paper, Murray has a shot at the lead role as well. Both Felix Jones and Tashard have been around for three years. They haven't galvonized their achievements quite yet.

The very least, there will be some good and competitive results from this camp.

This

I think people will appreciate this draft a whole lot more if Murray is the starting back by the time the season starts. From what I saw of him in OU I wouldnt be surprised in the least bit if he wins the starting job.

The idea is to be impressed with what they do on the field, not with how it sounds when their name is called on draft day. Bottom line is that you never know, especially the further down the line the draft gets. SWomeone mentioned in another thread that his response to hearing the names James Ratliff, Patrick Crayton and others was "who", and that's okay. Anytime a recognizeable name has fallen to later rounds there likely is a eason for it.
