The refs seem to be calling an excessive celebration penalty on damn near everything these days. I know it got pretty absurd at one time which is why they started the rule, but damn, should the players have to act like they are at a funeral after scoring??

I don't mind excessive celebrations AFTER scoring TDs........its when a tackle, sack, interception, fumble, first down, etc occurs. That is just overdone and I can see a penalty flag thrown in those cases. Scoring a TD is the object of this game and why not celebrate. Only in football is this penalized......you don't see that in baseball after a homerun, soccer after a goal, basketball after a big shot, golf after a birdie, eagle, hole in one...or even volleyball after a spike....yada yada and yada. This rule should NOT be applied after a TD.

If it's a game changing play, TD, Int that ends the game, a sack that ends the game, a huge first down to seal the game or on a game winning drive why should there be a penalty? So lame

Yeah. I'm going to do the robot everyday when I perform my JOB. I agree; it's annoying.

I can understand calling taunting type celebrations. But really all you gotta do to limit celebrations is get refs to start a clock ASAP. If you are spending too much time celebrating you will be penalized for delay of game.

They put the rule in because butt hurt defensive players started fights when they didn't like the celebration.

NFL still tries to appeal to the white conservative demographic and most don't like or still find a young black man making millions and having fun doing so, strange or very annoying.

Vernon Davis got flagged for shooting a jumper over the goal post.....no extended celebration. It is ridiculous when you consider they allow the Lambeau leap, which potentially could injure fans.

That was not excessive. Refs or too touchy about anything these days and its ruining the game.

Because of that penalty it let the Eagles back into the game. Otherwise they would be blown out by Washington.

FTFY

Celebrations where fine 10-20 years ago.....why the need to change the rules?

Celebrating is pumping your fist, hugging your teammates, etc. "excessive celebration" is a misnomer. What they are really penalizing is a bunch of dancing idiots saying "hey look at me!"
