Exclusive Interview - Draft Prospect Lavelle Hawkins

The Cowboys are in the market for a good young WR and in my opinion former Cal WR Lavelle Hawkins would be a great fit for them. He has great hands, a great attitude and he has no problem going over the middle for the tough catch in traffic.

But here's the clincher for me, he's also a deep threat who could stretch the field for a Cowboys offense already loaded with weapons like Terrell Owens, Marion Barber and Jason Witten.

Here's the interview I did with Lavelle..

Lavelle Hawkins Interview

I like his plans for draft day. Too many times we see these guys sitting in a room full of people all waiting for his name to be called which has to be stressful.

Take a look at 'The Hawk' in action for the Cal Bears..

Catches the ball over the middle with toughness and he gets deep with his speed. I really hope Jerry and Wade have seen plenty of film on Lavelle because he's everything the Cowboys need in a young WR.

Here's what the guys over at NFLDraftScout.com have to say..
Has large, soft hands to extend for the ball away from his frame, compensating for shorter-than-ideal arms. Does a nice job of keeping his feet inbounds when working along the sideline. Runs with pitter-patter steps, showing good change-of-direction agility. Likes to dive for the low throws, showing good ability to adjust. Will get good position in attempts to twist and adjust to the ball in flight. When he locates the defender, he is capable of executing double moves to elude after the catch (will try to run over his man, at times). Will catch with his body, but not as a crutch and does show good extension with his hands to pluck outside his framework despite a short reach. Does a good job of coming back for the ball when the quarterback has to scramble. Has good balance to turn the corner when executing the reverse.
Sounds like 'The Hawk' has a bright NFL future so let's hope it's while playing for the Dallas Cowboys.

Drew Boylhart (thehuddlereport.com) loves this kid. He thinks he may have a better career than DeSean. He compares Lavelle to Walker (slot-WR NE). He says, Lavelle is could potentially be just as dangerous and uncoverable in the slot as Walker due to Lavelle's quickness.
