Expectations

I hope to be in the Super Bowl every year despite the odds against it. I use to get really upset at every loss But I've learned over the years to take one game at a time. That's all I'm preaching here. Mark my words if we lose against the Giants on Sunday you'll see folks here throwing in the towel for the year. And losing Sunday night could happen. A consequence of the Cowboys not playing their starters much during the preseason is a rusty start to the regular season. I still think the Cowboys will win but I think it's going to be a hard fought close game.

My expectations are governed by three factors.

1. Romo's Back.

It is my opinion the Commander DB that blitzed and caused the injury to Romo last season did so on purpose. If you review that play, Romo did that thing he has learned about going down. He curled up to take the hit. But the guy came flying into his back, leading with a knee. Thus the injury.

This year, and every year to come the team will go as far as Romo takes them. And he can go as far as his back will allow.

2. Running Backs.

The beauty of last year was the ball control offense witnessed each week. Yet it was the complete package of protection and the passing game to the RB that made this team so dangerous. Can they match the effectiveness of last year?

That doesn't mean the yards, but the significant yards when needed.

Can they pass protect and pick up the blitz and keep Romo safe? See #1.

Can this RBBC add to the passing game in a meaningful way. Be a release valve for Romo?

This is more than just yards, it is an integral part of the offense. My belief is this will not be an RBBC after game 8. Either injury or someone being far above the others will move this back to at the very least a semi-featured back situation.

3. Defensive Line.

No pass rush, no pass defense. The DB's are only as good as the pass rush allows.

I have heard the great things about Gregory, and Lawrence. Hardy will be a beast, but can those other two deliver? That will be the real question.

My feeling, such as it is is this is a 10-6 team with no injury to Romo. Maybe 11-5 and the division. But they need to rattle out of the box in mid season form and win against their immediate rivals or else this will be a tough row to hoe.

All very good points.

My biggest worry is the secondary. Lots of teams we face will carve you up. Hopefully the pass rush will help. RB will not be a problem IMO

And at least initially the pass rush is not going to be much better than people are expecting. Geez, I've seen predictions of 50+ sacks in some threads.

There's alot of high expectations from fans this year. A little too high if you ask me. We could be better but have a worse record than last year. There will be a melt down if we lose 3 games early which is entirely possible looking at the schedule. The Rats will be jumping ship and this place will be miserable to visit. So just tamper all the high expectations and hang in even if we're not too successfully early on. And as Popovich / Garrett always preach take one game at a time. Pound the Rock.

Saints and Eagles games I am most nervous about out of the first 4 games

It won't be because rats are jumping ship, it will be because the haters and negative nancy's will be out in full force pumping their chests in the "I told you so" posts and threads.
One fumble, one run for lost yardage in the game, the thread it will start, they suck. An 80 yard they will say was a broken play on the Giants side.

But my expectations are always high. No not that kind of high, LOL. And not SB expectations every year. But with the success of last year, and what should be a better team this year. I expect a playoff appearance. Last year my expectations were that if the D stayed healthy, they could push for and very possibly get a WC. Or win the division at 9-7 or 10-6, because the other teams just weren't going to be good enough in the East.
But reality part of me is let's wait and see how it all plays out. Be patient, and things will come together. But at the same time expect that playoff push at the end of the year.
My hopes....with the SB of course.

You are completely wrong! There will be a meltdown after we lose any game. Always has been. :D

I'm cautiously optimistic. But I think what I'm most excited about is how this team is currently constructed. They are built to win for a long time, even if we as a fan base don't see immediate returns. For the first time in a long time I truly believe in the young talent on this team. My mood will certainly change if they start losing, can't help that...that's part of the fan gig. But for the moment my team is undefeated and I'm enjoying every last second of it while it last.

My expectation is winning the east and competing for a SB. There is not a team on the schedule the Cowboys can't beat if they go out and execute. Dallas has the talent to win. I think Garrett being able to keep these guys focused on today and not 4 or 5 games from now or the playoffs or SB is the key.

Nah but I say we go 20-0. After the Super Bowl we take on Ditka and Chuck Norris and beat them in a very close game.

I don't know about that. Chuck Norris could spot us 100 and still win only scoring 90. ;)

I'm usually not a blind optimist, but I predicted 14-2, and I'll stick with my prediction.
Barring injury, I think this is the year. I think Romo is going to be on fire. I think the offensive line is going to be even better - and Osi challenging their manhood will play into the offensive line feeling slighted and playing better. I expect Randy Gregory to be the next Javon Kearse, and I expect constant pressure, especially when Greg Hardy gets back.
Barring a significant injury, I think we dominate.

Actually, 4-4 would be horrible in other than a dream scenario post wise.

4-4 well keep us in the hunt..... get strong down the stretch and squeak in

And I think 4-4 is the worst case scenario. We lose more then 4 games in the front 8, something is way way off. wrong;

I have been watching the Cowboys since the beginning, going to my very first game in 1960 when I was two. I do not live in Texas anymore, but always a Cowboys fan. I have not been this excited about the opening of a season in a very, very long time. I love what the D is doing and that we finally have a pass rush again. I think the RB's will be fine, eventually Michael leading the way. I am also looking for a strong year from Beasley. I will go 11-5 as we have a tough schedule, but we should be much better, barring injuries, at the end of the year as our newer players log some time. I would like to see some series go no huddle and quick like the Eagles just to change the pace every now and then. Looking forward again to the season and posting on the forum.

Nice first post. Good to have you aboard.

I also think they need to move to an up tempo offense at times. Romo is a QB that can run it well.

I still love this place and this team if we go 0-16. But I may post a little less to avoid the blame game.
